Title: Mechanical Hardware Test Engineer

Position Type: Full-Time

Pay Range: $65,000-$110,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.)

About the Role: We are looking for a Mechanical Hardware Test Engineer that will support one of the following programs:

  • INCUS: NASA has selected Tendeg to deliver four Ka-band deployable antennas for a new Earth science mission called Investigation of Convective Updrafts (INCUS) that will study the behavior of tropical storms and thunderstorms, including their impacts on weather and climate models. https://www.jpl.nasa.gov/news/nasa-selects-new-mission- to-study-storms-impacts-on-climate-models

  • SDC: NASA has selected Tendeg to develop a large rectangular aperture deployable antenna for a Surface Deformation and Change mission. Tendeg completed TRL-6 testing of the baseline antenna, which is 7x1.4m and operates at C-band and is studying a 12x2m configuration at L-band. https://science.nasa.gov/earth-science/decadal-sdc.

  • 2-axis Gimbal Antennas: Tendeg has multiple contracts to develop, fabricate, test and deliver flight units for deployable high gain antennas from X-band to Q/V-band. These are for sensor and communication missions for LEO to lunar applications.

Job Summary: The Mechanical Hardware Test Engineer will work with multiple disciplines to build, integrate, and test spacecraft assemblies at the subsystem and system levels. The hardware test engineer will have hands-on experience with mechanical moving assemblies as well as PCBA testing, ground support equipment (GSE) selection and design and system level scripting. Extremely qualified candidates will be comfortable with all aspects of electronics testing including supporting program test operations on the production floor.

What you will do:

  • Develop, write, review, and implement test procedures and standard operating procedures
  • Assist in the development and implementation of testing activities
  • Participate in non-conformance investigations
  • Perform troubleshooting to determine failure and resolutions on non-conforming hardware
  • Perform circuit board testing to verify product is in spec and meets requirements
  • Assist in the development, implementation, and documentation of flight hardware tests for the production floor
  • Support engineering in the handling and operation of flight hardware under test
  • Assist with GSE selection and development
  • Identify and complete tasks with evolving requirements and minimal direction.
  • Test harness design and planning
  • Develop, design, and implement hardware and software tools for the production line environment
  • Training technician and test conductors
  • Ensure test procedures capture all required data
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Key Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics, or other related STEM field
  • 3 -7 years of applicable experience
  • Demonstrated strong problem solving and communication abilities
  • Ability to read and work to engineering documentation
  • Operate within ESD techniques/guidelines
  • Preferred experience with Oscilloscope
  • Preferred experience with calibrated tools and equipment
  • Technical writing skills preferred
