We're looking for a Medical Director [Real World Evidence (RWE) Scientist and Medical and Scientific Organization Scientific Communications Lead] to help us accomplish our mission to improve lives by learning from the experience of every cancer patient. What You'll Do
In this individual contributor role, you will be a Medical Director RWE Scientist in Flatiron's Research Unit and MSO Scientific Communications Lead. This role is on a team of 10 passionate, collaborative people, led by Rebecca Miksad, our Head of Strategic Affairs and Head of our Research Unit. This position reports into the Head of the Research Unit within the Medical and Scientific Organization. You will work closely with cross-functional scientists, business leaders and technical teams to drive research and thought leadership that furthers Flatiron Health scientific and research strategy. In the RWE Scientist in the Research Unit ( ~ 70%), you will
  • Independently lead, execute and contribute to cross-functional research studies
      • As Lead investigator, accountable for scientific integrity, validity and conduct of clinically-focussed research in the Research Unit
        • Create research concepts/proposals and generate research protocols
        • Collaborate with quantitative scientists who will generally run analysis to create clinically informed statistical analysis plans and interpret results
        • Create strategic 'plan language', deep dive and research project reports to share with internal and external audiences.
        • Drive writing publications (abstracts, manuscripts, posters) as first author.
        • Own project management, documentation, planning and communication for research project
        • Ensure research outputs align with evolving scientific and thought leadership strategy and business priorities.
        • Lead collaborations with external scientists as relevant. Collaborators include investigators from academic institutions, regulatory bodies such as the Food and Drug Administration, independent organizations such as the Friends of Cancer Research and life science companies.
        • Serve as Flatiron's representative of relevant research
  • Contribute clinical, clinical research and RWE expertise and execute research as a co-investigator of other RU research efforts
      • Accountable for clinical aspects of research.
        • Execute clinically related components of research
        • Deliver actionable, clinically informed input and review
      • Co-author to publications as an expert collaborator
  • Contribute expertise for Research Unit and IRB protocol operations and management relevant for role.

As the MSO Scientific Communications Medical and scientific Lead ( ~ 30%), you will
  • Single-point-of contact for Scientific Communications, Strategic Operations and related teams for amplification of FH Scientific Strategy and implementation of the Scientific Thought Leadership Strategy.
  • Collaborate with Scientific Communications, Strategi Operations and related teams on conference strategy and engagement, thought leadership activities and web-site and social media presence, including review and creation of content.
  • Engage with stakeholders across the organization, including scientists and business leaders from all Business Units, Regulatory Affairs, Strategic Operations, MSO
  • Engage internal and external clinical and scientific KOLs
  • Clinical lead for Flatiron's Patient Advisory Board (optional)

In addition, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with Flatiron Health teams leading engagement with external life-science leaders, regulators, and academic scientists in the US and internationally, learn from real-world data experts globally, and partner with key engineering, product, and data platform teams. Who You Are
You're a kind, passionate and collaborative problem-solver who values the opportunity to think beyond the way things are. You are a highly motivated, detailed, goal-oriented and experienced clinician-scientist and independent investigator with expertise in oncology and scientific field(s) related to real world data/Health Services Research. You are collaborative and a thoughtful scientific communicator who adapts messaging to the audience and can translate Thought Leadership strategy into action .
In addition, you have
  • Doctoral Level clinical degree (E.g. MD)
  • Formal research training and independent research experience, demonstrated by the ability to conduct research projects with minimal direction or supervision from concept to publication. (e.g. first author publications, research grants, Principal Investigator roles).
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional research teams that include investigators from a variety of disciplines (e.g. medical, epidemiology, biostatistic, machine learning), affiliations (e.g. industry, academic, pharmaceutical, regulatory) and/or roles (i.e. internal or external)
  • Deep knowledge of research related to generation of real world evidence (e.g. epidemiology, health services research, health outcomes research etc..) .
  • Understands the impact of empathetic communicatio n about science for a variety of audience types (academics to business to lay audience), levels (junior to C-suite level) and relationship (interval to external regulators)
  • Strong knowledge of good conduct of research, IRB and publication standards

Job Compensation Range
Salary Range: $288,893.00 - $360,750.00
Preferred Primary Location: NYC Headquarters
The annual pay range reflected above for this position is based on the preferred primary location of the role which is listed in the job description. Salary ranges for other locations vary from the range reflected above. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. An annual bonus and equity may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
