We are looking for a Metallurgist. The Metallurgist is responsible for metallurgical analyses and testing to maintain and improve manufacturing processes. The Metallurgist also supports department and plant goals as they relate to safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and lean manufacturing.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support plant operations and customers (internal and external) by improving manufacturing processes.
  • Support department and plant goals as they relate to safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and lean manufacturing.
  • Support new development.
  • Conduct statistical studies and training.
  • Support department and plant goals as they relate to safety, quality, delivery, productivity, and lean manufacturing.
  • Promotes continuous improvement in environmental and safety issues by ensuring that casting procedures are communicated and followed appropriately.
  • Immediately reacts to safety and environmental issues as they occur.
  • Check production results on the daily basis from the casting to the bonding line to review any metallurgical issues that need to be addressed. Review chemistry and microstructure of the heats as needed for compliance.
  • Support production people for trouble shooting as well as decision-making for acceptable or not acceptable material.
  • Review rejection causes of the final product and take necessary action to prevent further rejection.
  • Investigate customer issues, provide root cause analyses, and drive corrective/preventive action to prevent recurrence.
  • Support FM technical group for any new development.
  • Review chemistry and quality of the alloy material.
  • Oversee laboratory operation, maintain and improve analytical equipment for better analytical capability.
  • Maintain quality standard of the laboratory to meet ISO/TS standard.
  • Provide training related to the metallurgical field to management personnel as well as operators and lab technicians as needed.
  • Maintain and revise Work Instructions as required.

EDUCATION: B.S. in Metallurgy or Material Science preferred

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 5 years in the aluminum metallurgical applications or related manufacturing facilities.
  • Knowledge of computers, especially Excel, Word, PowerPoint and statistical tools.
  • Able to work with minimum supervision, well organized, willing to take initiative and stay abreast of changes in technology and the field of Metallurgy.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.
