Metallurgy Technician

Overview: 

As a Metallury Technician, you will work independently in the lab to manage incoming and outgoing samples, conduct metallurgy testing, and communicate results to internal customers.   This position reports directly to the Locus Director of R&D.  

Key Responsibilities & Tasks:  

• Receive and label all samples brought into the lab. 
• Assist with sample preparation including but not limited to drying, filtration (press filter), homogenization, crushing, splitting, and pulverizing. 
• Perform sample characterization using wet and dry screening methodologies, particle size analyzer, assay analysis (XRF), specific gravity, %solids, etc. 
• Conduct laboratory testing and output data for projects (e.g., Grinding, flotation and leaching). 
• Provide data that is accurate and valid and recognizes data discrepancies or unanticipated results. 
• Clearly communicate basic technical information, results, and testing statuses to internal customers. 
• Identify improvements or modifications to laboratory equipment and processes to enhance effectiveness, accuracy, and/or efficiency. 
• Understand risks associated with a course of action and communicates risks to supervisor or project teams. 
• Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with work group and other internal functional areas. 
• Assist Assayers in the wet lab area on base digesting. 
• Incorporate safe work procedures in all processes while maintaining a safe work environment in the lab. 

 
Required Qualifications & Skills:  

• 5+ years’ experience working in a lab technician role. 
• 3+ years’ experience working in a metallurgy lab, oil and gas lab experience will be considered. 

Preferred Qualifications & Skills: 

• Previous experience in mineral processing and bench scale test work.
