This Engineering Manager position supports several engineering functions in qualification of NetApp products. Those functions include, hardware engineering, software engineering, data analytics, field sustaining engineer, corporate quality, product management, commodity management and program management. Responsibilities will include managing and maintaining best practices for product test, managing team loading in support of the roadmap, drive supplier evaluations, setting priorities, overseeing execution, partnering on field escalations, and providing team level status on a regular basis.
The NetApp Core Storage Engineering Storage Media Engineering (SME) group seeks an energetic and detail-oriented manager with a background in computer science or electrical engineering to support testing of media in NetApp products such as 12, 24 and 60 drive, data management enclosures.

The overall responsibilities of the Engineering Manager are to provide management oversight to the SME drive qualification organization. This includes the growth and development of the resources and involves selecting, hiring, and developing results-oriented professional employees.

Specific areas of responsibility include:
- Participate in strategic planning sessions with the management team on a quarterly and annual basis
- Work with management team to determine annual budget
- Communicate process and qualification strategies to individual contributors and management
- Work with suppliers to understand their roadmap and technology plans
- Support customer interactions during field escalations
- Identify needed resources for supporting sustaining activities
- Review management plans with other managers on a regular basis
- Select, develop, and evaluate personnel to ensure departmental goals are met
- Keep senior management informed of key issues and changes which may impact expected business results
- Partner with sustaining resources to develop product qualification schedules
- Assume responsibility for team results, including costs, methods, and schedule adherence
- Manage student contractor resources

- This individual uses their management and technical skills to develop, modify and execute company policies that affect department activities and may have a company-wide effect.
- The scope of responsibility for this person includes implementing strategic policies and establishing and adhering to budgets, schedules, work plans, and performance requirements.
- This individual manages the coordination of activities for one of the two qualification groups within CSE SME, managing the SAS SSD and SAS HDD drive products, with full responsibility for oversight in terms of costs, methods, and staffing.
- May act as an advisor or subject matter expert.
- Sets revenue targets and ensures targets are met.

- This individual must effectively work with, and influences senior managers through executive level employees, functional peers and/or major customers
- The interactions of this individual require strong people skills, such as negotiating with customers or management, and influence senior level leaders regarding matters on an organizational level
- Acts in a leadership role within the organization and across organizations
- Receives Senior Management review of objectives to determine success.
Education
- A minimum of 10 years of experience as an individual contributor and 5 years as a people manager is preferred.
- A Bachelor of Arts or Sciences Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science; or related field is required.
- Experience which demonstrates a significant level of expertise in technical specifications required to support NetApp products and services is required.
- Specialized knowledge in breadth and/or depth.
