About the Role

We are looking for a qualified Manager, Engineering to join and lead our Cloud Infrastructure team in San Diego, CA (or remote).  The ideal candidate will have a strong background in AWS, Kubernetes, and serverless technologies and be able to manage the design, deployment, and maintenance of our cloud-based systems.

Our Cloud Infrastructure team utilizes software development processes such as Agile methodologies, design documentation, source code version control, and CI/CD.  The team develops and maintains shared infrastructure for other engineering teams and provides tools and platforms to enable other teams.

Our stack is wide, diverse, and evolving. As a Manager of Engineering, you are eager to lead and mentor teams working in multiple languages and frameworks, and contribute to future architecture decisions. You are versed in Agile/Scrum methodologies and are comfortable with giving and taking technical direction.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage the design, deployment, and maintenance of our cloud infrastructure
  • Lead and mentor the engineers and guide them along their career path
  • Continuously improve team culture and processes to maintain productive, happy, and fulfilled engineers
  • Manage cloud infrastructure costs by regularly monitoring capacity and recommending changes to reduce costs
  • Plan, prioritize and coordinate projects to support the needs of other engineering teams as well as internally driven projects.  This includes maintaining roadmaps and prioritizing the backlog

Experience

  • 3+ years managing cloud infrastructure and/or SRE engineering teams
  • 5+ years of experience as an infrastructure/DevOps engineer or SRE
  • Experience creating and/or improving development processes while reducing developer toil, and improving adherence to those processes
  • Experience working with: AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, Chef, RabbitMQ
  • Experience with MySQL and/or PostgreSQL
  • Good technical foundation with ability to pick up new skills, adapt quickly, and keep up to date with industry trends
  • Experience and commitment to building secure infrastructure using principles such as Defense in Depth and Least Privileges 
  • Strong emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust while acting as a servant leader
  • Strong emphasis on automation, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and documentation
  • Experience managing cloud costs utilizing Savings Plans, Spot Instances, Reserved Instances, etc and capacity planning for new customer growth
  • A commitment to software craftsmanship and best practices in testing, code review, design patterns, etc where applicable
  • Experience building strong relationships with Product leaders and other stakeholders to ensure your team has clear vision
  • The ability to review code, coach, and mentor engineers on your team
  • Experience supporting and contributing to the recruiting and hiring of awesome engineers
  • Proven success in on-boarding and training new engineers
  • A passion for building, developing, and coaching high-performing engineering teams
  • A relentless bulldozer to any roadblocks preventing your team from achieving its goals

Our job titles for each posting may span across more than one job level. The estimated base salary for this role is between $128,507 and $194,413. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target range for new hire base salaries across all US locations. Compensation packages are based on many factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, work experience, relevant trainings and certifications, business needs, market demands and specific geographical location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for bonus, equity, and benefits.
