The Small Satellite Department conceives, develops, and operates small satellite missions in partnership with a broad array of customers. The department comprises a core group of 15-20 engineers and technologists and leverages expertise from across Aerospace's deep technical backbone for specialty engineering. The team is currently seeking a Mission Operations and System Test Engineer to support small satellite missions and supporting ground systems. The position offers the opportunity for a creative individual to innovate in a fast-paced instrument development environment where direct access to and mentoring by senior staff are provided to accelerate the learning process.
This is a full-time position based in El Segundo, CA, offering a hybrid work model with remote flexibility as the business needs allow.
What You'll Be Doing
- Assure compliance of small satellite mission operations and system test activities with relevant company policies and practices for quality, project execution, safety and security
- Maintenance and expansion of Aerospace small satellite ground network
- Define and manage ground software architecture and version control
- Define test readiness review requirements
- Manage the Mission Operations Center in El Segundo, CA
- Design and maintain a new Mission Operations Center in Chantilly, VA
- Mechanical and Electrical subsystem testing and fault isolation
- Assisting software developers with replicating and debugging problems uncovered during system integration and/or flight operations
- Qualification and Acceptance test design and execution
What You Need to be Successful
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent is required
- Typically, 8 years of applicable engineering or educational experience is required
- Experience in satellite operations and mission planning
- Ability to work with our customers to define and execute small satellite projects in their interest
- Experience with System Testing, System Integration Testing, End-to End Testing, and Functional Testing
- Knowledge of general electronic test equipment such as oscilloscopes, function generators, and digital multimeters is required
- Scripting experience preferably in MATLAB and Python
- Strong problem-solving skills, deductive reasoning and inductive analysis capabilities are a must have to be successful in a fast paced, results oriented environment. Debug skills and the ability to get to the root of the problem quickly are essential
- Willingness to occasionally travel and to work off-business hours to support customer needs (as required)
- This position requires ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.

$105,000 - $140,000 - $185,000
