Summary
THE FEDERAL PUBLIC DEFENDER is accepting applications for a mitigation specialist to be stationed in Tucson. The federal defender organization operates under authority of the Criminal Justice Act, 18 U.S.C. ยง 3006A, to provide defense services in federal criminal cases and related matters by appointment from the court to individuals unable to afford counsel. The organization has staffed offices in Phoenix, Tucson, Yuma, and Flagstaff.

Qualifications
Education
A bachelor's degree in social science or services and three years of specialized experience in social science or research, with at least two years of mitigation experience is required. A master's degree in social science or services is strongly preferred.
Additional information
Starting salary with be commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the applicant, within a range from JSP-11, Step 1 to JSP-14, Step 1, currently yielding $73,858 to $124,395 per annum. The position is in the excepted service and does not carry the tenure rights of the competitive Civil Service. The position does include regular government employment benefits including health and life insurance, retirement, telework opportunities and the Thrift Savings Plan. Salary is payable only by Electronic Funds Transfer (direct deposit). All positions are at will and are subject to the availability of funds.
