Responsibilities

As our mmWave IC Design Engineer, you will be a core member of SkyGig team and responsible for research, development, and implementation of SkyGig's innovative mmWave silicon technology at the heart of our best-in-class wireless front-end technology. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Develop new transceiver architectures and blocks for mmWave systems and beamforming architectures
• Translate product and system requirements into detailed radio and IC block level specifications
• Work with foundries on process selection and evaluation for the target specifications
• Design schematic and layout of mmWave and RF radio building blocks such as LNA, PA, Mixer, VCO, Switches, etc.
• Perform IC floor planning and layout and evaluate and characterize prototypes of your own designs in a lab environment
• Work across a cross-functional collaborative team of bright engineers and scientists
• Manage project goals and timelines
• Prepare technical documents and reports and participate in design reviews and brainstorming sessions

The ideal candidate will have strong technical competency and experience to lead and own the project, from the design concept phase to prototyping, testing, and system-level integration. They will also need to have the desire to adapt and grow in our vibrant fast-growing startup culture.

Requirements

• PhD in Electrical Engineering or Master's degree with 5+ years of RFIC experience
• Strong background in RF and mmWave state-of-the-art CMOS, SOI, or SiGe IC design
• Proficient in mmWave IC design tools such as Cadence, ADS, and HFSS
• Deep understanding of system specifications and capable of translating system requirements into circuit requirements at IC level
• Great knowledge of various RF transceiver architectures
• Proven tape-out experience in design and implementation of different transceiver blocks such as mmWave low-noise amplifiers, broadband, and/or high-power amplifiers, as well as mixers and oscillators.
• Insights into IC packaging effects, supply isolations, high-frequency ESD structures, and circuit layout for optimum performance.
• Hands-on experience with mmWave transceiver test methods and familiar with RF test equipment
• Experience in writing scripts for simulation and test models (using MATLAB or other programming languages)
• Comfortable working and solving problems independently as well as collaboratively within a team
• Strong written and oral communication skills in English and comfortable explaining technical concepts to the rest of the team

Preferred

• Familiar with digital communication systems and modulation types such as QPSK, APSK and QAM, and their impact on performance
• Knowledge of electromagnetics and phased array antenna concepts and their impact on mmWave IC performance
• Familiarity with industrystandard and mass-producible manufacturing and integration processes and technologies
