Modeling and Simulation Lead
Job Description
The Resilient Communications Department (N152) is seeking talented modeling and simulation system engineers interested in communications to join our diverse team of engineers working on DoD communications challenges for both the US military and its international partners across all domains (underwater, surface/ground, air, and space).
The Resilient Communications Department focuses on creating and fielding communications solutions for successful mission execution in contested environments. DoD communications needs pose unique challenges to operate globally in dynamic or denied environments including the effects of electronic warfare.
The department's work areas include RF communications, networking, modeling and simulation, system integrations, systems engineering, and software programming.
Roles and Responsibilities:
This position involves working as an individual contributor in a collaborative team environment to develop and apply models and simulations to analyze military communications and networking systems. Work includes:
- Evaluating communications needs using scenario-based mission-level simulations with multiple users/platforms/networks/radios operating in contested environments
- Developing physics-based communications performance models for current and future communications systems, given limited technical specifications
- Conducting network/protocol modeling for wireless networks operating in multiple domains (air/ground)
- Using commercially available modeling and simulation tools (MATLAB, AFSIM, STK, EMANE, and others)
- Leading analyses of current/future communications and networking capabilities, deriving results, forming data-based actionable recommendations, and presenting studies/results to both technical and non-technical audiences
Minimum Qualifications:
- Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or similar field ; or 6 years and a Master's degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret or Top Secret security clearanceDemonstrated experience with at least one modeling & simulation tool (MATLAB, AFSIM, STK, or others) and willing to learn new tools/technologies as needed
- Proficient in developing/reviewing/troubleshooting models/simulations, including ones developed by others
- Ability to frame and articulate technical problems in a system engineering context with a clear understanding of the "big picture"
- Possess strong interpersonal skills to effectively lead multi-disciplinary studies along with excellent analytical, written, and oral communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- MS or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or a similar field with 10+ years of related experience
- Familiarity with DoD command, control, and communication protocols, resilient communications technology and techniques, tactical communications and networking, and sensor technology and networking
- Experience with communications systems performance modeling, detection and jamming analysis, RF interface modeling, link budgeting, network modeling, and system-level trade space evaluation
- Experience with one or more software development tools/environments (C/C++/C#, Git, Python, or others)
- Possess active Secret or Top Secret clearance
