Motion Director
Job Description
As a Motion Director, your role will be the creative lead of the motion design group within our studio ensuring creative excellence, collaboration, innovation and talent development. You will be able to inspire, conceive, execute and deliver beautiful, thoughtful and impactful solutions for our clients.
You Will:
- Mentorship- You will be overseeing a large team of motion artists, providing them with support and mentorship, teaching them of advanced motion methods, sharing new techniques and helping them elevate the quality and efficiency of the work.
- Directing, guiding, evaluating and selling the work
- Checks to get a sense of team health and organization’s culture
- Evolving and moving the work forward daily
- Ensure people are productive, resourced appropriately and know people’s limits
- Creative collaboration – looking at things, building, refining and revising
- Quality control – choosing concepts, providing feedback on what needs to change.
- Evaluating team and identifying key talents
- Meetings and conversation with teams on performance and their work
- Establishing proper mix of talent to be effective as an agency
- Juggling projects so that junior creatives get more exposure to different tasks
- Looking at what is going and what is coming up and help facilitate ways their teams can be realizing and fulfilling their potential
- Formal career development conversations
- Recruiting and attracting talent
- Supporting and highly involved in new business activities
- Represent creatives and creative skill outside the agency at industry round tables
- Judging awards, speaking, writing, involved in trade bodies, commentary with the industry

You Have:
- You have end-to-end experience from concepting to executing complex motion asks, utilizing advanced techniques in motion graphics design and animation.
- Strong knowledge of post-production workflows, how motion and animation interplay with, cinematography, offline/online editing, VFX, and 3D elements for cohesive visual storytelling.
- Expert knowledge level of After Effects, skillfully applying easing techniques to achieve fluid and natural motion transitions, and extensive experience with expressions to automate complex animations, enhancing efficiency and creativity in project execution.
- In-depth knowledge of video formats, compression, and optimization, delivering high-quality motion content tailored for various digital platforms.Â
- Responsible for product created from the idea, the execution, and the quality from a look and feel, storytelling and usability perspective
- Sheppard client with ability to listen, have empathy, ability to sell, motivate and enthuse the client
- Understand and live in the lifecycle of an accounts
- Solutions that garner industry and press recognition
- Talk of the importance of what the work needs to do for the client and CM
- Concept and story tell with larger clients and a variety of streams of work
- Apply a growth mindset to all account conversations
- Unlock opportunities, innovation, and define culture within the creative team
- Lead large brand engagements
- Point of escalation for client and internal teams; determine compromise to move the work forward
- Finding balance between clients feel compelled that the work is right, smart and successfully and matching that to CM goals
- Hard skills: Adobe Creative Cloud, After Effects, Cinema 4D
- Nice to haves: Unreal Engine, AI Tools (Midjourney, Stable Diffusion)
