Job Summary
MycoWorks is seeking a highly capable Material Requirement Planning (MRP) Buyer/Planner to support our existing pilot plant in Emeryville, CA and our new facility in Union, SC. This role will be based out of Union, SC. In this role, you will play a crucial role in coordinating and executing all activities pertaining to the planning and procurement of raw materials, consumables, and components. Your primary responsibility will be to convert the Master Production Schedule (MPS) for multiple locations into material requirements, ensuring adequate supply of components for the production lines at the right times.
As the MRP Buyer/Planner, you will effectively communicate the material plan to various suppliers, ensuring lead times are respected and coordinating any change-requests. Working collaboratively with the cross-functional team, you will optimize the flow of materials while taking into account warehouse capacity and inventory targets, preventing potential disruptions in supply.
The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to anticipate materials and proactively address supply challenges by maintaining data integrity and utilizing the information output to make informed decisions. The contributions in the role will be critical to maintaining a smooth and efficient supply chain which supports the overall success of our production processes.
This is an on-site role at our manufacturing plant in Union, South Carolina.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, maintain, and execute Materials Requirements Plans (MRP) to ensure timely procurement of materials and components to meet production and customer demands for a multi-site company.
- Monitor inventory levels and analyze demand forecasts to determine optimal order quantities and reorder points for raw materials and consumables.
- Coordinate with suppliers to obtain quotes, negotiate pricing, terms, and lead times, and place purchase orders for materials in accordance with production schedules.
- Ensure timely delivery of materials by tracking and expediting purchase orders, and proactively communicate any potential delays to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production, logistics, and quality control, to streamline material flow and optimize inventory levels.
- Evaluate supplier performance based on quality, delivery, and responsiveness, and work with Global Procurement to drive supplier improvement initiatives.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of material inventory, orders, and supplier information in the MRP system or other relevant databases.
- Identify and address potential supply chain risks, shortages, and obsolescence issues to mitigate disruptions in production.
- Utilize data analysis and forecasting techniques to make data-driven decisions regarding material planning and procurement.
- Support new product introductions and phase-outs by managing materials transition and disposition activities.
- Â Coordinate with quality, procurement, and warehouse staff regarding rejected/defective materials, arranging prompt return or disposal with suppliers.
- Collaborate with Warehouse, Quality, and Procurement teams to address any issues related to rejected or defective materials and facilitate returns or replacements with suppliers.
- Monitor and comply with relevant industry regulations, company policies, and best practices related to materials procurement and inventory management.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings as required.
- Continuously improve MRP processes and practices to enhance efficiency and accuracy in material planning and purchasing.
- Maintain effective communication with internal stakeholders and suppliers to ensure a smooth and effective supply chain operation.
- Provide support for other supply chain initiatives, such as Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) processes, as needed.
- Support ERP development and implementation efforts.
- Develop work instructions specific to your area of responsibility.
- Cross-train into production planning to provide valuable support.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- BS or Technical certifications such as an APICS certification preferred
- Combination of purchasing and materials planning experience totaling five years
- Capacity to adapt to changing demands and maintain efficiency in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy in purchasing and planning activities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams and foster positive relationships with suppliers
- Problem-solving mindset to address supply chain challenges and mitigate potential disruptions.
- Willingness to take ownership of tasks and drive continuous improvement initiatives
- Exceptional communication abilities to foster effective collaboration within the team, across cross-functional departments, and with external vendorsÂ
- Comfortable with a high-level of autonomy
- Robust expertise in systems and process management
- Highly proficient in organizational skills, capable of efficiently managing tasks and priorities
- Proven track record of adept negotiation skills, capable of securing favorable outcomes in various business interactions
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets with hands-on experience in successfully implementing a new ERP system preferred
- Must be able to follow cleanroom and safety practices
