Job Summary

As a Member of Technical Staff in Continuous Product Engineering (CPE), you will be a member of a team providing software engineering support for released products. Specific areas of focus will be in diagnosing, reproducing and identifying solutions to customer reported problems, including system outages. This could be the right job for you, if you enjoy solving puzzles, working "under the covers" of complex systems to understand how they work and digging into low level operating system code to find and fix product deficiencies.

On the job, you will work with Data ONTAP, the number one storage operating system on the planet. You will demonstrate your technical problem solving and debugging skills to characterize system behavior and recommend action plans and procedures to work around, or recover from, product deficiencies.

Essential Functions: • Specific areas of focus will be in diagnosing, reproducing, and providing solutions in the CIFS/SMB subsystem of ONTAP. • Collaborate with senior CPE engineers in debugging and finding the root cause of CIFS/SMB problems as well as finding ways to work around those problems. Perform these duties through careful examination of system logs, system status information, system corefiles and ONTAP source code. • Diagnose and make recommendations for bringing systems to a proper working order, serving data. Develop and communicate action plans as needed for diagnosis and/or remediation. • Contribute to the development of test plans based on the customer reproduction scenarios. Implement test cases on system simulators or lab hardware as needed. • Contribute to the development of software fixes for customer found product defects.

Job Requirements

At a minimum, some experience, course or project work in one of the following:
  • Demonstrable programming experience in C, C++, C#
  • Familiarity with basic concepts of computer architecture, operating systems, data structures and standard programming practices.
  • Operating Systems: Unix, Linux, Microsoft Windows
  • Embedded and/or Realtime systems
  • Filesystems such as VFS, NTFS, JFS, ZFS, CIFS
  • Operational experience in setting up and configuring Linux / UNIX-like systems
  • Experience in multi-threaded operating system software development at the kernel or driver level on Linux or other UNIX-like OS
  • Script development experience in shell, Perl or Python
  • Debugging experience with GDB or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint
  • Proven aptitude for learning new technologies
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to work successfully through complex issues in high stress situations
  • This is a regular daytime position but may entail some holiday and/or weekend coverage.


Education

A Bachelors Degree, Masters degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Math or related technical discipline; or equivalent experience is required.
