Summary

Serves as the senior Museum Curator of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), the expert authority on all matters regarding collection management, acquisition, accountability, valuation, documentation, preservation, display, loan, and disposition of artifacts (objects and art) of historical significance. Manages the use of artifacts for exhibits, interpretation, research, and DOJ history and heritage education, training, and outreach.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Museum Curator, (GS-1015-14), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

Basic Education Requirements for the GS-1015 series:

  1. Degree: museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field.

    or

  2. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

    or

  3. Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study as shown in A above.

Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is defined as: Determining the scope, content, and emphasis of the agency artifact collection; directing collection management, acquisition, accountability, valuation, loan, and disposition of artifacts; and managing the use of artifacts for museum exhibits, displays, interpretation, and history and heritage education and training.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
