Museum Specialist (Art) (Collection Specialist)

Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1016-9. For this position, Candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-7 level in the Federal service, organizing and cataloguing works of art for a museum or similar cultural institution.

Those applicants who meet the minimum qualification requirements will be evaluated against these factors to determine the best-qualified candidates.

1. Skill in organizing and moving works of art.

2. Knowledge of proper artwork storage techniques.

3. Ability to catalog photographs, albums and volumes.

4. Knowledge of automated systems sufficient to support the department’s use and implementation of new technologies and collaborate with colleagues within PXD, other areas of the National Gallery and individuals at outside organizations to complete projects; perform tasks such as word processing, database, and spreadsheet programs in performing functions such as preparing reports, researching inquiries, reporting time and attendance, and preparing travel arrangements.

5. Knowledge of art history, particularly the history of photography.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria:  Must be able to bend and stoop. Travel to offsite storage location in Lanham may be required. Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
