Energy Aspects is seeking a Houston-based Oil Markets Analyst to join our growing global team. This is a fantastic career opportunity for a commercially-minded analyst with an understanding of North American crude oil markets to help guide and expand the North American service of a well-respected and rapidly growing energy markets research consultancy.
As a passionate energy markets analyst, you will play a central role in our oil service, confidently making market calls on these rapidly changing markets. Previous experience and understanding of the North American crude supply, demand, or midstream sectors would be preferred.
These responsibilities will span the full cycle of our work, from monitoring market developments, writing concise analysis, presenting to clients, and helping upkeep supply/demand/pricing models.
This position will require flexibility and the drive to do excellent work within the scope of a larger team. All team members are encouraged to build their professional reputation within the industry and are supported by some of the most well-regarded energy sector commentators. You must be able to work independently, as well as be capable of planning and prioritising to achieve success. Duties
- Producing relevant and insightful reports and analyses on market movements, to highlight challenges and opportunities for traders, etc.
- Predicting and commenting on market movements, formally through our publications and on an ad-hoc basis with our clients.
- Keeping updated on any and all latest developments in North American crude production, refining, imports, exports, storage, midstream, and pricing.
- Analysis of upstream and midstream companies earning reports (10Ks/Q2s), and reviewing financial performance.
- Collecting data sets, then highlighting key changes in the data and providing insights on how it affects short term market balances.
- Presenting our views to clients verbally and through writing.
- Building and maintaining strong internal and external networks.
Requirements
- 2-5 years of experience analysing a commodity, with prior experience in crude oil preferred.
- A bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or a related field.
- Strong MS Excel skills are required. Programming skills are preferred (Python, SQL, Power BI).
- The ability to communicate market views clearly and concisely to clients in English (written and verbal).
- Experience running supply and demand balances and using these to analyse future pricing trends.
- A strong eye for detail and drive to ensure content published is client-ready and follows the company's strong ethos.
- The ability to meet deadlines and work effectively with others, including colleagues in different time zones, to deliver timely analysis will be critical.
