What You'll Be Doing in the role of National Series Director
The National Series Director, MORE THAN PINK Walk serves as the as the key leader of Susan G. Komen's largest signature event fundraising program, the MORE THAN PINK Walk (MTPW). The Director oversees the strategic development and execution for the Walk series and Race events using the same assets and infrastructure as Walk with an end-goal of providing market-based Community Development staff with a program to drive fundraising revenue to fuel our mission to end breast cancer. Areas of oversight include series brand management, marketing and communications, technology infrastructure, volunteer management, event experience and planning and sponsorship activation. The Director leads management of a cross-functional team across the organization and a group of external agencies on all aspects of the program. The Director will be responsible for improving the Walk program in ways that give the market-based Community Development increased opportunity for participant engagement, fundraising and sponsorships opportunities. The Director will also lead across the development programs and experiential fundraising team and our matrixed organization, leveraging resources and teams to successfully plan, support, execute, evaluate, innovate and improve the Walk program.
The Walk Program, and its sister-series the Race for the Cure, are at a strategic crossroad. It will be key for the Director to facilitate innovation, create alignment and drive revenue during a time of change.
What You Will Bring to the Table
Directs strategy, planning, development, and execution of the Susan G. Komen Walk series. Leads cross-functional, year-round strategic and operational management of the series.
Facilitate the customization and leveraging for the MORE THAN PINK Walk infrastructure and resources in support of the Race for the Cure events, as that series goes through its own strategic evolution.
Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams in Development Programs Strategy, Marketing, Communications, Operations, Engineering and market-based Community Development teams to align strategy, build programs and resources, and leverage key partnerships.
Through the cross-functional team, provide support to the market-based Community Development Teams in all matters related to the MORE THAN PINK Walk and Race for the Cure, including fundraising, technology platforms, sponsorship, participant engagement, program development, marketing, volunteer and committee support, event operations, policy and compliance and other related activities.
Drive smart and strategic program innovation, in ways that enhance the participant experience and the value for sponsors in order to increase net revenue to mission.
Partner with all key stakeholders to maximize the integration of Komen's mission and to optimize the organization's presence in the Series.
In partnership with Komen Marketing and Communications Teams, develop integrated communications & marketing plan, which includes high ROI tactics and innovative digital solutions to increase acquisition and retention. Leverage public relations and media opportunities surrounding the Walk events.
Develop, cultivate, and manage strong working relationships and shared goals with the market-based Community Development team, the Revenue Development team and the Event Planning and Experience team to set expense and revenue budgets.
Provide insight and guidance for event experience, including creative and brand strategy, logistics, volunteer needs and engagement, event thematic, activities and entertainment.
Provide regular project updates to organizational leadership, measure event outcomes vs. objectives, provide evaluation reports and recommendations.
Measure and evaluate progress towards program objectives and outcomes. Provide recommendations to organizational leadership for evolution, continuation or elimination of an initiative or program related to the 3-Day.
Advise on sponsorship sales and sponsor activation for the Walk.
Set program strategy and ensure cross-functional support for the virtual "Walk Where You Are" program, including programming, marketing, communications and technology.
Start and serve as the leader of the Walk Participant Advisory Council.
Be the central Walk point of contact for Organization Leadership.
Drive a culture of innovation through supporting and developing new strategies and programming.
Provide management and oversight of external firms, agencies, or contractors related to the Walk program.
Oversee the centralized revenue and expense budget.
Provide monthly analysis of Walk program revenue performance and benchmarking data to leadership.
Represent the organization as a leader in P2P industry opportunities.

We Already Know You Will Also Have
A passion for event fundraising and an keen understanding that events exist to achieve a set of outcomes, not just for the sake of having an event.
Direct experience setting and leading the implementation of strategic and operational plans for a nation-wide peer-to-peer event fundraising program.
Demonstrated success leading through change with strong cross-functional team building chops and interpersonal skills.
An understanding of when to "own it" and when to "phone-a-friend" and tap in a team member for subject matter expertise. This person is expected to have a strong working knowledge of every part of the event-fundraising program lifecycle, but can't possibly be the deep expert on everything.
An understanding of the time for and function of collaboration, strong listening skills, the knack for asking the right questions, extracting key themes and the credibility needed to quickly move stakeholders to sound recommendations, credible decisions and solid plans.
The ability to connect the dots to establish and share program standards and best practices, and to launch and evolve systems.
Professional, mature communication style and the ability to lead through influence.
Strong strategic, analytical and operational skills.
Cross-functional team builder with a fundraising focus and strong interpersonal skills.
The demonstrated ability to ask the right questions, listen expertly, synthesize information, propose solutions, build consensus and bring plans to life.
Excellent planning, organizational and follow-up skills.
Extensive knowledge of online communication and fundraising techniques and in-depth understanding of online event management through Blackbaud TeamRaiser or similar platform.
Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects with varying priorities at one time.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively speak and present to small to mid-size groups. Willingness and ability to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
Willingness to learn a must.
Must be willing and able to travel including overnight stays up to 25% of the time.
Work Experience 10 - 15 years
Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, Non-profit Management, or Other Related Field
Preferred experience includes:
10 plus years of experience in events or special event fundraising.
At least 5 years of experience as a proven leader in a Top 30 peer-to-peer fundraising program.
At least 5 years leading or managing others, including agency partners and vendors.
Prior national / regional peer-to-peer fundraising management.
Direct experience managing a peer-to-peer fundraising event or series over $10 million through a period of strategic planning and / or significant growth.
Ability to influence, educate and motivate diverse group of people.
Experience with Blackbaud / TeamRaiser and Luminate Online a plus.
Travel requirements outside of the office 25%.
