JOB SUMMARY:

This Position may be involved in research and development efforts for 45% of their time annually. The Network Engineer Level oversees and manages the day-to-day operation of LAN & WAN computer networks including hardware, and software support. This individual is accountable for the following systems: Cisco hardware and IOS maintenance/upgrades, installation, maintenance, and documentation of Satcom Direct Government core services. Monitoring and troubleshooting Satcom Direct services and data center locations to ensure proper operation and uptime.

Due to the increases in locations of relevant equipment and hardware, the individual is responsible for the engineering, design, and installation of equipment at multiple locations. This includes reducing the overall footprint in these areas to reduce the space required and thus the cost of having equipment in multiple locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and should demonstrate the following competencies to consistently execute the functions of this position. All employees are expected to adhere to and be knowledgeable of Satcom Direct (SD) operations standards, established safety/security rules and requirements for company work guidelines .Provide support, training, and documentation for other Activation Specialists, as well as external departments.

• System and network engineering and design, equipment installation, backup, maintenance, and problem solving within the SDG worldwide PoP Infrastructure.
• Partner integrations and support of various SDG PoP locations with a concentration on Ashburn, VA and Melbourne, FL.
• Supports network and remote connectivity with hardware and software across the PoP Infrastructure.
• Maintains LAN/WAN user documentation including hardware and software applications, support logs and other related information in Confluence and other online document sharing programs.
• Analyzes and troubleshoots network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems to include PAN connectivity, blacklist generation, and other network security monitoring.
• Monitors usage to ensure security of data and access privileges; installs, supports and maintains both physical and virtual network servers and appliances to include virtual switches and other systems.
• Assists with installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Storage Area Network (SAN).
• Support and integrate network monitoring tools to include Scrutinizer, Net Brain, and other software that can be used through the PoP infrastructure.
• Configure, monitor, and enhance Satcom Direct value-added services ensuring that they operate reliably and continue to generate revenue.
• Engineer and assist military customer applications and programs to include private networks and infrastructure services such as channel bonding, NATO, captive portal, Global Hawk, EACN, and others.
• Work with SD Tech Ops to support networks and ensure the backbone and other terrestrial areas are streamlined and integrated properly.
• Design and manage network architectures to reduce the complexity of the design and simplify the operations.
• Other duties may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Equivalent of BEng, BSIT, or technical degree required. A mixture of relevant experience and industry certification(s) may be considered.
• 5+ years recent hands-on experience configuring and maintaining Network hardware and software.
• CCNP certification is desired.
• Strong knowledge of LAN/WAN networking protocols, topologies and architecture.
• Highly experienced with LAN/WAN technologies, BGP, Routing Protocols (BGP & OSPF), and MPLS Network Design.
• Installation and maintenance of Cisco router and switching hardware.Familiar with Cisco ACS, Palo Alto Network appliances, Layer 2/3 VPN architectures.
• Basic Linux Experience (CentOS/Red Hat).Experience with network automation and design.
• Project Management experience with IT projects is desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing general office duties for this position, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand and/or walk around (including the use of stairs). Other demands include the ability to openly communicate with others by talking, listening and reading, able to lift light objects (

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The office environment is generally quiet and, in a temperature, controlled setting with random adjustments in noise or temperature due to others talking or laughing loudly, unscheduled maintenance repairs to the building or its interior offices or unpredictable situations due to weather or other acts beyond company control. An employee must be willing to work their regularly assigned work schedule for their particular duties and/or job responsibilities and in times of need, be able to work an extended schedule depending on company/department needs, project requirements or customer demands. Some overnight travel is required to facilitate work objectives. While at client site locations, if applicable, employee will be required to adhere to the proper safety precautions established by the client while in proximity to their work area, flight-line or maintenance repair center; work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes or equipment. The temperature at client locations can vary from controlled to variations off hot/cold when working, standing or walking in or near the flight-line or maintenance repair center.
