About The Position

The Network Engineer designs and builds communication and network systems to meet specific end user requirements based on current standards as well as communication and network systems to support larger infrastructure projects that add new capabilities. This position will provide direction and guidance, as well as hands-on design and configuration for existing, new, and future network systems which include core networking technologies (including aggregation, SDx, load balancing, etc.) and LAN/WAN technologies (including Cisco routers, switches and WiFi, Palo Alto firewalls, Nokia MPLS, etc.),. This position will work with a variety of internal groups and personnel, as well as external suppliers to complete their designs and implementations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design configuration and implementation of networking technologies including MPLS, fiber optic communications, QoS, SNMP, VoIP, PoE, routing protocols, structured cabling, etc.
  • Design, configuration and implementation of IP networks for LAN, WAN, and WiFi
  • Design, configuration and installation of all networking equipment including, but not limited to load balancers, firewalls, routers, switches, and related equipment
  • Design, configuration and oversee the installation of in-building structured cabling and outside plant systems
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for network design activities, ensuring that systems are designed to work efficiently and fulfill the business requirements in terms of capacity, continuity, and availability, in addition to delivering new functionality
  • Communicate with internal customers to understand their system requirements for various communications and network systems
  • Communicate with suppliers to develop solutions to meet the internal customer's needs
  • Work with other project teams and project managers to implement secure network solutions
  • Design and configure cellular antenna systems
  • Work with other IT Infrastructure Specialists and Engineers as well other business unit personnel that support the corporate networks and the electrical grid, gas operations, and other corporate efforts
  • Define, document and maintain communications architecture principles, policies and standards
  • Follow ITIL practices around incident, problem, change management, configuration, and knowledge management
  • Participate in Industry standards and research groups as Ameren representative

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in engineering, mathematics, computer science or business
  • Will consider candidates without a degree if they show/demonstrate having 2+ years equivalent, relevant experience in tools, systems and initiatives leveraged by Ameren
  • 3+ years of relevant experience required

In addition to the above qualifications, the successful candidate will demonstrate:

The Network Engineer works a standard shift in an office environment with occasional travel to field locations. May be required to provide 24x7x365 support.
