Favor TechConsulting, LLC (FTC) is seeking a talented Network Engineer & Administrator with Department of Veterans Affairs experience.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Role Overview: Favor TechConsulting (FTC) is seeking a qualified Network Engineer & Administrator to support the maintenance and sustainment of the James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center’s (JALFHCC) communications network. This position is located in North Chicago, IL. The ideal candidate will be capable of completing the following job duties as a network engineer:

Responsibilities:

  • Independently reorganizing and/or re-cabling network closets for communications signal flow, including the labeling, verification, and documentation of network end point connections
  • Utilizing telecommunications hand tools and knowledge of basic electrical theory to successfully maintain analog, digital, and IP technologies
  • Establishing communications systems by installing, operating, and maintaining voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment per current industry standards. This includes running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables along with installing telecommunications equipment, cable trays, alarm circuits, and ladder racks
  • Providing telecommunication and telephone support for video telecommunications conferencing (VTC) and telephone line services (i.e. phone and fax lines)
  • Verifying telecommunications service by testing circuits, equipment, and establishing alarms/notification systems
  • Troubleshoot and install Network Switches
  • Work with SolarWinds
  • Understanding of VLAN technology
  • Ability to run Data Cabling

Required Skills & Experience

Β 

  • BS/BA in Computer Science or directly related field (e.g., Information Technology, Information Science, etc.) plus 5 years of related experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and oral/written communication skills
  • Proven organizational skills with ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • Excellent customer interaction skills/ability and demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work off-peak hours which may include some evening and weekend work in order to minimize impact to customers
  • Prior experience supporting the VA or any other US Government agency

Professional Certification(s):

CCNA

Formal Education:

BS/BA in Computer Science or directly related field (e.g., Information Technology, Information Science, etc.)Β 

Years of Professional Experience:

plus 5 years of related experience
