Network Engineering Manager (all genders)

THE ROLE & THE TEAM 

The Workplace Infrastructure department is responsible for managing and maintaining the IT infrastructure across the entire Zalando Group. Our team

ensures seamless network access and connectivity, oversees server and

storage solutions, manages virtualization, and provides support for server

operating systems as well as endpoint user devices. In addition, our specialised Network (Cloud and Security) team handles critical aspects such as on-premise firewalls, site2site VPNs, Network access, and our direct connection to our cloud infrastructure, ensuring robust protection and optimal performance across all platforms.

As the Engineering manager of the team, you will be at the helm of a

specialised team dedicated to ensuring the security, scalability, and reliability of our infrastructure and the network security across the Zalando Group’s

locations, including offices, outlets, and fulfillment centers. You will lead a team of 5 experts who are responsible for the design and implementation of our

network solutions, providing them with support and guidance.

In this role, you will drive operational excellence and lead the evolution of our network to align with the company's cloud and security strategies.

You and your team will collaborate closely with Principal Engineers from the InfoSec and Builders departments to build strong, long-term relationships,

ensuring that our network infrastructure meets the needs of the business both today and in the future. By providing clear direction and context, you will empower your team to achieve their best work.

• Lead and mentor a team of network engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement and guide them as they design, implement and manage the networks.
• Provide strategic direction, reduce ambiguity, and offer context to enable your team to deliver high-quality solutions.
• Ensure the operational excellence of our network security infrastructure, driving continuous improvement and innovation.
• Collaborate with stakeholders from different business units to align on long-term strategies and objectives.
• Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies to drive innovation, while supporting the design of network standardizations that eliminate the need for ad-hoc solutions and enhance the company's scalability.

WE'D LOVE TO MEET YOU IF YOU HAVE

• Strong leadership skills with a focus on team development, operational excellence, and strategic planning.

• Proven experience in leading teams of senior network engineers with focus on network security.

• Understanding of technologies and concepts from the network engineering landscape.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to build strong relationships across teams.

• Experience in budget planning and forecasting processes as well as basic project management skills.
