About This Role

The Neurobiology Research Unit within the Rare Disease and Neurology research units at Biogen is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated individual with experience in neuroimmunology and neuroscience. This position will offer a unique opportunity to gain mechanistic understanding of interactions between cells of the immune system and central nervous system (CNS) under inflammatory conditions with new hypotheses generated from extensive analysis of single cell transcriptomics data of multiple neurodegenerative diseases followed by experimental validation using state of the art co-culture systems of human ipsc derived glial and neuronal cells.

Job Description

The Neurobiology Research Unit within the Rare Disease and Neurology Department at Biogen is a multi-disciplinary team investigating shared and disease-specific mechanisms of chronic inflammation and dysfunctional myelination in neurodegenerative diseases including multiple sclerosis, alzheimer’s disease and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Our mission is the development of novel therapeutics to improve the life of patients. You will be joining a team focused on identifying new targets through extensive analyses of single cell genomics studies of human brain tissues from MS, AD and ALS and from multi-omics characterization of in vitro and in vivo model systems of neuroimmunological diseases. The candidate will closely work with multiple groups across the research organization to design and execute research projects The work will involve a wide array of in vitro, in vivo, and analytical techniques using cellular and molecular approaches, and is expected to advance projects towards clinical development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop creative and innovative hypothesis and research plans to gain insights into disease relevant neuroinflammation phenotypes.
  • Design, develop, and perform experiments to support scientific activities and project goals involving iPSC derived glial cells, co-culture, organoids, humanized in vivo models, and biochemical assays.
  • Plan and conduct in vitro and in vivo studies, and analytics with particular emphasis on deep phenotyping to unveil novel neurodegenerative disease mechanisms.
  • Prepare, review, and deliver scientific presentations for internal and external use.
  • Build strong collaborations across the Research organization at Biogen and become a key member of a cross-research unit.
  • Write reports, manuscripts and generate data packages supporting model development and drug candidate advancement.
