New College Grad Software Engineer (Backend)
Job Description
Department: Engineering
Navan is on a mission to revolutionize the corporate journey as the world's only all-in-one travel, corporate card, and expense management platform. As a Backend Engineer on the Expense team, you won’t just be writing code—you’ll be building the engine behind the world’s most seamless, "no-touch" expense management platform.
We are looking for a builder who is passionate about eliminating the manual drudgery of receipts and reports. You will work closely with a team of talented engineers, product managers and designers to identify customer needs and build innovative solutions to solve them. You will analyze and optimize UI for quality, efficiency and performance. In addition, will quickly ramp up on the existing features and you’ll be responsible for shipping the features into production. If you’re ready to ship high-impact features to a global user base and optimize the backend infrastructure that makes business travel feel like magic, let's talk.
What You'll Do
- Build the Foundation: Contribute to the design and implementation of high-performance API endpoints and backend services that power our "all-in-one" travel and expense platform.
- Bridge Code & Data: Apply your knowledge of CS fundamentals to translate complex business logic into clean, scalable code using domain object modeling and modern ORM technologies.
- Learn to Scale: Collaborate with senior mentors to navigate the real-world technical trade-offs required to build distributed backend processes that support a global user base.
- Ship with Impact: Directly enhance the traveler experience by building and shipping innovative features that turn manual expense reporting into a seamless, "no-touch" reality.
- Master the Ecosystem: Gain hands-on experience across the entire development lifecycle, from architecting backend logic to ensuring the reliability of services in a production environment.
- Power the Mission: Join a team dedicated to "powering the people who power business" by eliminating friction at the intersection of travel and finance.
What We're Looking For
- Technical Foundation: A BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- API Craftsmanship: Proven experience designing and implementing high-performance APIs and core backend services.
- Product Mindset: A genuine passion for delivering quality, end-user-facing products that solve real-world problems.
- Agility: The ability to quickly implement, iterate, and pivot based on new ideas and customer feedback.
- Collaborative Spirit: A proactive communicator who thrives when working with designers, PMs, and fellow engineers to bridge the gap between "possible" and "shippable."
- Traveler Obsession: Excitement for taking on projects that directly improve the lives of travelers and finance teams alike.
- Growth Mindset: A willingness to operate and lead within a fast-paced, high-growth environment where the bar is set high.
The posted pay range represents the anticipated low and high end of the compensation for this position and is subject to change based on business need. For roles with on-target-earnings (OTE), the pay range includes both base salary and target incentive compensation. Target incentive compensation for some roles may include a ramping draw period. Compensation is higher for those who exceed targets. Candidates may receive more information from the recruiter.
