New Markets Sales Manager, APA Books & Digital Content
Job Description
The successful candidate will:
- Leverage their knowledge in book sales to create new and innovative revenue sources for APA books
- Be detailed and strategic to evaluate, analyze and present new opportunities for APA content in print and digital markets
- Establish a deep understanding of our dynamic and growing book content, both front and backlist
- Optimize e-vendor relationships and in-house systems operations that facilitate e-book distribution
- Participate in regular reporting to in- and out-of-house stakeholders
- Keep North American and global sales rep teams up to date with title information with seasonal sales presentations.
- Generate buy reports for wholesalers
Support day-to-day activities necessary for the successful operation of the sales department.
The Books Sales Manager reports to the Director of Sales, APA (American Psychological Association) Books.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required
- 5+ years relevant book publishing experience in higher education, trade, and library sales required
- Experience in creating effective presentations, developing new sales opportunities, and managing a sales territory preferred
Skills Required:
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Systems (e.g., Salesforce); professional business communication; clarity in writing and presentations
- Team player
- Enthusiasm for sales and a commitment to promote APA's mission
Responsibilities:
- Executes product and account sales plans and forecasts for print and e books
- Supports tactical aspects of sales strategies including identifying ongoing and new sales opportunities and achieving new and ongoing sales objectives
- Identifies and pursues special sales objectives to achieve sales targets through product sales to domestic and international corporations, associations, publishers, school systems, web sites, e bookstores, librarians, etc.
- Maintains vendor/territorial sales plans and forecasts
- Identify and pursue sales opportunities by consulting with editorial, marketing, authors, and sales reps; following up on leads in marketing questionnaires; responding promptly to all queries
- Submits regular sales reports regarding activities and results such as daily call reports, weekly work plans, monthly sales analysis, to the Director of Sales, APA Books
- Obtains current information from the marketplace regarding competitor pricing, new products, delivery schedules, promotional techniques and transmits significant developments to the Director of Sales, APA Books
- Some travel required, including exhibits, author events, trade shows
- Other duties as assigned
