Summary:
The Manager, New Product Development is responsible for guiding the Product Development Group in the design and implementation of broadly-based research and development projects for new and improved Industrial Filtration product forms. This group, along with other segments of the Corporate Technology Branch, serve as a control point of materials research and development for affiliates throughout the world.
The development group also provides technical support to Marketing, Sales, Manufacturing and Customers.
This position works closely with Marketing, Sales, QA and Manufacturing and at times Engineering and Finance to develop and implement the Product Development programs for Alkegen. Product development programs include those directly intended to grow the Industrial Filtration Business.
Reports to the Industrial Filtration Growth Leader.
Supervises Product Development, including Scientists, Sr. Scientists, Development Associates, Principal Development Engineers, and Technicians.
Coordinates activities with key managers of Marketing, Manufacturing, Q.A., and Sales to develop global programs.
Responsibilities:
The incumbent is expected to perform the duties Living the Alkegen Values of Grow, Go Fast, Be Passionate, Be Bold, and always doing the right thing at all times.
Qualifications:
Breadth of knowledge (as opposed to depth of knowledge) of a specialty area is required. Proficient in Adaptive Coaching skills of listening, asking, and responding.

- Works closely with Marketing, Manufacturing and Worldwide Technology Vice President to identify, quantify and assess required resources for new product opportunities.
- Develops and implements Product Development portfolio - defines opportunity, lists research objectives, quantifies payback, and develops project budgets.
- Helps establish and provide direction to Cross Functional Commercialization Teams for New Product Development Programs.
- Manages multiple projects. Some individual project management responsibilities. Assists and facilitates what needs to be done.
- Assists with strategic direction.
- Interacts with executive management; Manufacturing, Sales & Marketing.
- Prioritizes projects based on the company and the market environment.
- Assigns Technology personnel to programs.
- Responsible for project budgets.
- Reviews project progress, budgets, and reassesses priorities on a quarterly basis.
- Works to continuously improve the efficiency and success to the New Product Development system.
- Coordinates and disseminates technical knowledge to worldwide operations.
- Recruits, supervises, motivates and develops Technical staff.
- Handles technical support to Marketing, Sales and Manufacturing functions.
- Conducts monthly coaching sessions with direct reports.

- Traditionally, program has significantly impacted Company sales. About 20% to 25% of Company sales comes from products that are less than five years old (this equates to about $20 million in 1996 terms).
- Supervises approximately 10 - 15 research and product development projects.
