New York Playbook Writer

POLITICO is seeking a dynamic, creative and enterprising journalist to anchor our coverage of New York City politics and co-author New York Playbook, the most authoritative political newsletter in the state. This is a high-profile, high-stakes position for a reporter who wants to set the agenda in the biggest city in America.

We're looking for someone with a strong voice, a track record of delivering big scoops and a sophisticated understanding of politics in New York City, Albany and D.C. We need someone who can wow local political insiders while also penning must-read stories for a national and global audience. Candidates should be brimming with fresh ideas, comfortable hosting events and excited about the chance to be an ambassador for our brand.

What You'll Do:

• Break news and cover high-level political dynamics around Mayor Eric Adams, the City Council, the congressional delegation and the extended universe of New York politics
• Work with a co-author to write a weekday newsletter that's required daily reading for anyone who cares about politics in New York
• Build a deep source list that stretches from City Hall to Wall Street to Capitol Hill
• Make regular appearances on television and radio
• Serve as an ambassador for our coverage by hosting POLITICO events and regularly engaging the city's most influential people - from corporate titans to political power brokers and elected officials

What You'll Need:

• A strong understanding of U.S. politics and, preferably, New York politics. We will consider top candidates from outside New York
• Excellent reporting skills, including the ability to break news on a regular basis
• Strong news judgment and a sense for which stories will resonate with POLITICO's audience
• An engaging voice and knack for breaking down politics for insiders as well as more casual readers
• The entrepreneurial drive to innovate and experiment with new approaches

The anticipated salary range for candidates who will work in New York, NY is $85,000.00-$110,000.00 per year. The final salary offered, which may be higher than the current anticipated salary range, to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, type and years of experience within the industry, education, etc.
