Job Description

POLITICO is seeking a creative, entrepreneurial editor tohelplead a dynamic team of journalists who cover some of the hottest stories in the world: The political and policy collisions between governments and Silicon Valley, the race to outpace China on innovation, the herculean effort to protect data from ever-more-sophisticated hackers and the way tech giants are changing the global power dynamic.

You'llwork with our technology and cybersecurity editor - in collaboration with a wide cast of colleagues covering North America, Europe and Asia - to offer our audiences unmatched insight into the thinking and actions of policymakers and regulators, as well as how private industry is trying to shape the rules of the road. We believe the best journalists not only report the news but hold those in power accountable for their actions, and we're looking for someone to help a team of creative and enterprising reporters achieve that goal.

What You'll Do:

  • You'll assign and edit breaking news, plan in-depth stories and keep POLITICO ahead of developments on Capitol Hill, in the boardrooms of tech companies and inside the cybersecurity community.
  • You'll guide, plan and edit coverage across POLITICO's platforms: Politico.com, our must-read newsletters and our premium subscriber service.
  • You'll be particularly focused on keeping POLITICO ahead on the news of the day, deciding breaking news targets, pushing for scoops and helping reporters move past commodity news to incisive pieces that set POLITICO apart.

What You'll Need:

  • A track record in covering the biggest technology or cybersecurity themes that shape the political and business worlds in the U.S. and globally
  • Experience developing innovative coverage that reaches influential audiences in Washington or other industry power centers
  • A deep understanding of the intersection of technology and politics, demonstrated through reporting or editing.
  • Exceptional organizational skills to keep projects on track while coaching reporters to distill complex subjects.
