Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for a dynamic multiplatform editor based on the West Coast to join its Multiplatform Editing Desk and News Service, The Post's wire service in partnership with Bloomberg News. Candidates must have strong news judgment, a command of language and style, and sharp multitasking skills. This multiplatform editor will edit news and feature stories, in addition to selecting and clearing stories and images for News Service distribution and communicating with clients. Our desk handles copy in a rapidly evolving newsroom, so a desire to learn and an ability to master new skills are essential.
This multiplatform editor must be a critical thinker who is comfortable juggling many tasks and switching gears with ease. This person must be a self-starter, able to work independently and prioritize tasks in real time; work quickly without sacrificing quality; and communicate collegially and effectively across a large, fast-paced global newsroom.
Candidates should have at least three years of editing experience at a mid-to-large-market news organization or a digital outlet with a commitment to strong journalism.
This position is remote from the West Coast and will require night and weekend hours - typically 2 to 10 p.m. Pacific time, Tuesday through Saturday. Experience with sports copy editing is ideal but not essential. A copy-editing test will be required.
Candidates should upload a resume, cover letter and three examples of work (as PDFs) to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 10/28/2022 will be prioritized. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. The cover letter should be addressed to Multiplatform Editing Chief Courtney Rukan and Deputy Multiplatform Editing Chiefs Brian Cleveland and Nora Simon.
The Post strives to provide its readers with high-quality, trustworthy news and information while constantly innovating. That mission is best served by a diverse, multi-generational workforce with varied life experiences and perspectives. All cultures and backgrounds are welcomed.
