News Systems Administrator

In your role as News Systems Administrator, you will work with internal resources to build, test, operate, and upgrade Sinclair's newsroom systems used for producing Sinclair's news, weather, and sports. You will apply your knowledge and experience with industry leading security practices to support our broadcast critical production systems . You will be part of a diverse, industry leading group of strategic thinkers and problem-solvers working to support and improve our operations and reliability.
The successful candidate must be able to proactively manage projects and quickly diagnose and address any outages as they arise . The candidate must also be able to configure state-of-the-art computer systems. To achieve these goals, the candidate must have functional knowledge of Avid workgroup environments and substantial knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.
In addition, we are looking for the following general skills and experience:
- Work directly with engineering and operations to support, upgrade, and troubleshoot systems.
- Active Avid Certified Support Status or equivalent recent experience.
- Knowledge of administrating Avid iNews at the command and operational levels.
- Develop operational processes for production systems and train staff as needed.
- Execute support plan and escalation strategy while troubleshooting live on-air network and connectivity related issues.
- Maintain and track Avid workgroup performance data.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure tools implemented align with the long-term strategy of the company.
- Track and report on risks, contingency plans, and roadblocks to stakeholders and leadership.
- Ensure that forward thinking technologies are factored into operations.
- Deep understanding of Linux is required.
- Knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes a plus.
- Working knowledge as an IT systems administrator. VMware knowledge a plus.
- Fundamental networking knowledge as it relates to modern broadcast architecture.
- Familiar with the modern newsroom infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter driven by their own curiosity and sense of urgency. As an integral part of their rapid problem-solving skills, they will be able to frequently learn and implement modern technology . Candidates should have 5+ years of broadcast engineering or operations experience with a fundamental understanding of complex newsroom systems centered around Avid iNews.
The News Systems Administrator will be part of Sinclair Broadcast Group's Corporate Engineering and Operations team. They will work closely with other technology teams to transform and support our newsroom systems.
