Reuters is hiring a Newsletter Editor (Level 1 Journalist) and will be based in San Francisco, CA.

This critical role will help ensure we engage and grow our global digital audience. In addition to making sure our current offerings remain must reads, you will be part of a team tasked with evaluating new opportunities to expand our newsletter portfolio. You must have strong news judgment and experience collaborating with tech, analytics, and other teams to deliver new products.

What is the focus of this role

You will oversee, improve, and expand the Reuters newsletter offering, with the goal of increasing readership and deepening engagement. Prior experience using analytics to drive newsletter subscriptions, improve click through rates and increase traffic is critical.

As our Newsletter Editor (Level 1 Journalist), you will:

  • On a day-to-day basis, you'll have a hands-on role overseeing the Reuters newsletter output, working with writers and designers to strengthen the quality of our existing newsletters, from editing copy, to coming up with smart subject lines
  • Use data to understand reader behavior, and regularly experiment with a/b testing tools to gain reader insights and develop best practices
  • Use data learnings to find ways to increase engagement with our newsletters, and working with the social team to promote newsletters
  • Assess opportunities to launch new newsletters, conducting research and using data to guide judgement, and pitch ideas to the wider team

To be our Newsletter Editor (Level 1 Journalist), you will likely:

  • Have at least 4 to 5 years creating, writing, and editing newsletters. (Your previous experience with newsletters does not need to be for a newsroom, but you must be able to demonstrate strong news judgement.)
  • Have excellent experience using analytics to make newsletter decisions and understand how readers are consuming the newsletters
  • Have experience using a/b testing tools and newsletter publishing tools. (Meaning, you don't want to just put together good newsletters and hit send: you want to make sure people read and enjoy them.)
  • Be able to collaborate across teams, from product, to revenue, to editorial.
  • Finally: you must be excited at the role newsletters can have in delivering the news to readers.

This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between Reuters and the NewsGuild of New York, CWA Local 31003, AFL-CIO.

Thomson Reuters complies with local laws that require upfront disclosure of the expected pay range for a position. The location(s) for this role include one or more of the following (New York City, San Francisco, Culver City, Irvine). The base compensation range for the role in any of those locations is $70,000 - $125,000.
