Fortune Newsroom Internship, January-June 2023 

Fortune is hiring smart and energetic student or early-career journalists to join our newsroom for six-month internships running January to June 2023. 

Internship candidates may be currently enrolled in school part-time or recent graduates. While previous newsroom experience, such as one or more prior newsroom internships and/or significant experience at a collegiate publication, is desirable, it is not required. 

You will…  

• Either be assigned to a specific beat on a desk or work across desks and verticals 
• Learn and perform newsroom basics such as curation, digital production, fact-checking and research, image pulling, and monitoring of social media feeds and other publications for ideas 
• Report and write stories like Q&As, explainers, and news pieces 
• Participate in team brainstorms 
• Work both independently and in collaboration with colleagues  
• Contribute to our industry-leading newsletters 
• Ensure our coverage includes a diversity of ideas, perspectives, and voices 
• Uphold Fortune’s standards of journalistic rigor, accuracy, and fairness  
• Receive training and mentorship from experienced Fortune journalists to learn and grow 

The right candidate…   

• Thrives on economics and business news or demonstrates enthusiasm, willingness, and ability to learn it 
• Values and balances speed and stamina with accuracy and completeness 
• Reads a lot of news from a breadth of sources  
• Writes clean and accurate copy on deadline 
• Is a quick study and infinitely curious  
• Is willing to try new things and learn and is excited to contribute meaningfully to the Fortune newsroom 
• Can take and internalize direction to grow in the role 
• Can communicate professionally and effectively in a remote or hybrid environment and work comfortably alongside seasoned professionals

Fortune’s headquarters is in NYC, but our editorial team is distributed across time zones. This opportunity is based in the US—New York City or elsewhere across the country. NYC-based staff are welcome and encouraged to work out of our office; those based elsewhere are typically remote. Fortune interns work 35-40 hours per week, Monday through Friday (excluding company holidays), and earn $25.71/hour.
