Nonprofit Accounting Coordinator

What is the role?

The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for processing a variety of accounting transactions in the Sage MIP accounting system.  Responsibilities of this position will include preparing general ledger entries, supporting the monthly close, processing cash receipts, preparing balance sheet reconciliations and supporting the annual financial audit and tax preparation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintaining accurate accounting records, reconciling all trial balance accounts, bank statements, credit card statements, and subsidiary ledgers.
• Prepare schedules for accruals, prepaids, and capital leases.
• Prepare, review and record revenue invoices.
• Process Accounts Payable invoices 
• Prepare journal entries to record expenses from expense reimbursement system
• Allocates transactions to the appropriate program, departments and/or grants.
• Support the annual audit and tax preparation by an external accounting firm.

Qualifications and Competencies:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 1-2 years of experience in accounting, in the non-profit sector strongly preferred
• Experience with accounting software packages, preferably Sage MIP.
• Proficient with Google Suite, Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Solid understanding of general ledger, accounts receivable, and fixed asset systems.
• Thorough knowledge of all aspects of the accounting cycle and accounting rules (GAAP/FASB).
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to prioritize and work accurately with close attention to detail; strong time management skills and an ability to work independently.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Position Details and Compensation:

This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Director of Finance and Accounting. Salary $55,000-$75,000 DOE, and includes benefits, 403b, and performance-based compensation plans.
