NoSQL database administrator

Black Canyon Consulting (BCC)  is searching for a NoSQL Database Administrator to support the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This opportunity is full time at the NIH-NCBI in Bethesda, MD and/or remote work.

Job Description

NoSQL administrator will be working directly with project teams to architect, design, implement and continuously improve database solutions. This position is for experienced database administrator who has solid knowledge of mainstream RDBMS products. However, the responsibilities of this database administrator will primarily include support for NoSQL systems, such as MongoDB and Solr.

Primary duties are to:

* Install and configure new servers, databases and related software tools;
* Monitor availability and performance of production and development databases and servers;
* Perform and automate daily database maintenance, user assistance and troubleshooting;
* Analyze and resolve complex technical problems, including performance tuning, and application design and debugging;
* Participate and perform migrations from development to production environment;
* Monitor database backups and maintain recovery procedures;
* Apply software patches and upgrade server and client software for various NoSQL products to stay in compliance with security standards;
* Plan database and server level capacity according to statistics and user requests;
* Work through disaster recovery plans with other groups and departments;
* Communicate/work effectively in a team environment.

Requirements

* B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science or related discipline and 4-year experience in IT industry or related field within last five years;
* Hands-on experience in database administration and good SQL knowledge;
* 3+ year experience with at least one of major database management systems such as Oracle, Sybase or MS SQL server;
* Strong Linux skills, preferably with RedHat/CentOS;
* Hands-on experience in NoSQL administration is a plus;
* Experience in Perl or Python is a plus.
