NPD Engineering Manager

Thermo King is looking for a passionate and dynamic Engineering Manager to join our Truck Platform team! This position is eligible for a Hybrid work schedule and will be based out of our Minneapolis, MN location. As an Engineering Manager, you will provide top-notch engineering leadership and take charge of managing various design projects for our Truck business. Not only will you collaborate cross-functionally across multiple regions, but you'll also get to interact with our global manufacturing facilities, dealerships, and customers. Your technical expertise will be vital as you take the reins as the technical lead for new product development projects. As the Engineering Manager, you'll apply your engineering knowledge and expertise to develop innovative solutions that meet our product performance and safety requirements.
What you will do:
- Lead a team up to 6 direct reports (3 Mechanical Engineers & 3 Electrical Engineers) in the development, qualification, and implementation of Truck new product, sustaining, quality and productivity projects.
- Provide Technical leadership for New Product Development (NPD) projects, responsible for technical input into project Quality/Delivery/Cost (QDC) targets and overall execution of Engineering tasks to meet project QDC targets as well as product performance and safety requirements. While managing risk and driving for project success.
- Lead the Engineering team through generating, evaluating, and analyzing design concepts for mechanical, electrical, and controls sub-systems and components for Americas truck V-series, T- Series, electric-powered e-series and b-series models.
- Coordinate department resources regarding platform projects and customer support issues as they arise. Work with Platform Manager to prioritize overall requirements and allocate resources accordingly.
- Provide leadership stakeholders and project sponsors with appropriate, timely and accurate updates of project status including reports, metrics, Design/Gate Review records.
- Maintain project management database with relevant and accurate documentation, information and data.
- Communicate effectively with teams and within management structure to facilitate workflow and resolve project barriers and issues.
- Provide leadership to the Truck engineering team including assigning objectives/projects, responsible for evaluating performance and providing positive and constructive feedback. Work with the team to foster a Winning Culture through career/development planning and initiatives that improve engagement and celebrate team accomplishments.
- Coach and mentor team members to develop overall capabilities, both technical non-technical.
- Work with engineering management to drive strategic programs and initiatives aimed at improving project efficiency, communication, and design robustness.
- Domestic and international travel up to 10% may be required.
What we expect of you:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (or related technical degree) required. Master's Degree in Engineering or Management experience is a plus.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in product design is required.
- Previous supervisory, management or project leadership experience is a plus.
- Demonstrated technical project management experience with Design, Quality & Reliability processes, supplier qualification and part approval requirements.
- Self-motivated with initiative and strong collaboration and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams spread across multiple geographical regions.
- Basic cost accounting and project viability assessment experience expected.
Base Pay Range: $90,000 - $140,000/ year
