APTIM, a leading engineering firm with a global presence and a thriving Coastal Engineering and Numerical Modeling practice, is pleased to announce an immediate opening for a Mid to Senior-level Numerical Modeler for government clients in our Boca Raton, FL office. The APTIM team is multidisciplinary with coastal engineering, restoration, and coastal and marine science services specializing in all aspects of beach nourishment, shoreline protection projects, coastal and marine mapping, and coastal resiliency and sea-level rise work. APTIM's engineers, biologists, geologists, surveyors, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialists work with both government and private clients on a wide range of environmental and coastal issues.

APTIM is seeking a motivated, dynamic, and personable numerical modeler experienced in the principles and practices of coastal engineering, coastal hydrodynamics, wave theory, and sediment transport mechanics. This position has tremendous growth and career development potential for a passionate and experienced engineer.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

  • Complete complex engineering calculations and modeling for the design or analysis of projects located in coastal environments
  • Define numerical modeling needs; provide guidance to the numerical modeling team and QA/QC numerical modeling results.
  • Strong quantitative skillsets to support regional coastal/waterfront projects, including beach nourishment and coastal structures
  • Lead/conduct engineering analyses and apply coastal engineering tools for the design and formulation of resilient coastal protection projects
  • Manage project teams in conducting the design process for engineering projects from conceptual design to detailed designs
  • Develop and participate in business development activities and write proposals
  • Coordinate and support work with other coastal engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline and with support services staff
  • Conduct field work including site inspections, surveys, and data collection and analysis
  • Manage team and individual tasks and small projects while also working collaboratively as part of a team for larger or multi-disciplinary projects
  • Design, manage and contribute to field programs and field data analysis
  • Perform project management activities in a lead role being responsible for scope, budget and schedule working in close coordination with project team, subconsultants and clients
  • Collaborate with marketing strategies for the Coastal market service line

Basic Qualifications:

  • Coastal engineering experience required with focus in numerical modeling
  • Master's Degree in Coastal Engineering, Coastal Processes, or Oceanography or related degree required
  • 5-10 years of experience
  • Extensive knowledge of coastal numerical modeling software (Delft3D, MIKE21, Bouss-2D, STWAVE, ADCIRC, GENESIS, UNIBEST, SBEACH and the BEACH-fx, HEC-RAS)
  • Demonstrated technical and analytical skills in designing projects
  • Demonstrated strength in written and verbal communication skills suitable to a consulting environment
  • Demonstrated ability to fluently communicate in spoken and written English
  • Demonstrated skills leading projects and managing design teams
  • Have a passion for working in a consulting firm environment on a variety of projects
  • Experience with preparation of proposals, selection presentations, business development, and implementation of project scope, schedule, and fees
  • Willingness to travel in support of business and project activities
