Job Description

The Nurse Practitioner (NP) at ROC plays a key role in delivering high-quality care to patients, focusing on conditions related to hip and knee joints. The NP will be responsible for conducting preoperative evaluations, managing new patient consultations, overseeing postoperative appointments, and assisting the nursing team in the total joint practice. The NP will also ensure proper documentation, billing, and adherence to company standards.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Preoperative Clinic:
  • Perform comprehensive preoperative evaluations for patients undergoing orthopedic surgeries, with a focus on hip and knee procedures.
  • Assess medical history, physical exams, and risk factors to determine surgical readiness.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other team members to optimize patient outcomes.
2. New Patient Evaluations:
  • Conduct initial consultations for patients presenting with orthopedic concerns, particularly related to hip and knee problems.
  • Diagnose conditions, order appropriate imaging or lab tests, and develop treatment plans in consultation with the orthopedic team.
  • Educate patients on their condition, treatment options, and preventative care.
3. Postoperative Management:
  • Provide follow-up care for post-surgical patients, ensuring proper recovery and rehabilitation progress.
  • Monitor patients for complications and manage postoperative pain and wound care.
  • Adjust treatment plans as needed to promote optimal recovery.
4. Team Oversight and Support:
  • Provide clinical guidance and oversight to the nursing team.
  • Assist with complex cases, ensure adherence to clinical protocols, and offer support in patient management.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination between the nursing team, surgeons, and other healthcare providers.
5. Patient Documentation & Billing:
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient encounters, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up care in the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Ensure compliance with billing practices, coding guidelines, and company standards within appropriate timeframes.
6. Additional Duties:
  • Perform other clinical or administrative duties as needed, including patient education, research participation, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in orthopedic care, treatment techniques, and best practices.
Qualifications:
  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing, with Nurse Practitioner certification.
  • Active Nurse Practitioner license in OR.
  • Certification in Orthopedics (preferred) or experience in orthopedic clinical practice.
  • Strong knowledge of preoperative and postoperative care, particularly in hip and knee conditions.
  • Excellent communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Working Conditions:
  • Clinical setting with potential exposure to biohazards, such as bloodborne pathogens.
  • Physical demands include standing for extended periods, assisting with patient transfers, and performing physical exams.
