Position Title: Nutrition Specialist

Reports to: Senior Director of Member Service Operations

Location: Chapel Hill, NC (On-Site) 

Start Date: August 2023

Salary Range: $48,000 - $55,000, depending on qualifications

Bonus Potential: 6% of salary (paid quarterly)

Position Summary: 

The role of Well’s Member Services team is to create frictionless experiences for our members and help them achieve their best health. At Well, our members are at the core of everything we do. We are seeking to forge sustained relationships with our members by serving them with empathy, and we are looking for team members who are excited to join our efforts to pursue this goal! 

We’re looking for a collaborative and motivated Nutrition Specialist with a passion for improving members’ health to join our Member Services team. This member-facing role will work closely with Well Guides as the nutritional subject expert to provide general nutrition education in response to questions received through chat or phone. As a Well Guide, you will be part of a diverse team focused on ensuring our members have a smooth and positive interaction with Well, answering questions related to medical benefits, coaching our members to set and obtain their health goals, and helping them navigate the healthcare system.  You will report to a Well Advisor (Member Services Supervisor) and be a valuable part of the dynamic, member-first and collaborative culture of the Well team.

The Nutrition Specialist will also help expand our blended coaching model to include nutrition topics and will work closely with the Member Services leadership team to create and maintain other resources based on identified needs and priorities for the team. Resources may include educational tip sheets for Well Guides to use when interacting with members as well as curated lists of meal plans and recipes.   The breakdown of these responsibilities is anticipated to be approximately: 50%: collaborating with Well Guides to answer on-demand nutrition-related chats and 50% developing and maintaining Well Guide-facing resources, including evidenced-based nutrition education tip sheets and workflows. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support our Well Guides as a member-facing go-to nutritional subject matter expert and respond to member questions received through chat or phone
  • Consistently meet program metrics and quality requirements
  • Develop and maintain standardized meal plans that cater to different dietary preferences, restrictions, goals, and chronic conditions based on the latest nutritional guideline and recommendations 
  • Curate and maintain meal planning resources and recipe lists for Well Guides to utilize when supporting members
  • Develop Well Guide workflows for navigating common dietary questions, including which resources to connect members to and when to refer members to their primary care doctor or a registered dietician  
  • Create educational resources and tip sheets for Well Guides to enhance members’ general nutrition knowledge, promote healthy eating habits, and empower members to make healthy food choices 
  • Conduct thorough research to gather information on various nutrition topics and translate complex concepts into clear and concise materials for our members
  • Collaborate with other teams and internal clinical experts to ensure the accuracy and relevance of the nutrition-related content 
  • Keep up to date with the latest nutrition research and trends to ensure that resources are evidence-based.
  • Regularly update existing resources to reflect the latest nutritional guidelines and recommendations.
  • Respect and incorporate members’ individual choices and cultural preferences, as appropriate, for the best adherence and outcomes

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred)
  • Coaching Certification preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in nutrition coaching
  • Ability to demonstrate in-depth scientific knowledge of food, human nutrition and behavior
  • Able to assess the validity and applicability of scientific evidence without personal bias, and exercise an evidence-based approach at all times
  • Experience with and ability to comply with all applicable laws and regulations related to the limitations of nutrition practice in a digital health setting and  is able to recognize and self-enforce practice limitations and seek counsel as appropriate
  • Problem-solving skills and ability to develop creative solutions to meet clients' needs and preferences
  • Passion for helping individuals achieve their health goals through nutrition and lifestyle changes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information in an easily understandable manner
  • Demonstrated ability to create engaging and informative content for diverse audiences
  • Proficiency in researching and synthesizing scientific literature on nutrition
  • Familiarity with nutrition tracking software and digital health platforms is a plus
