Job Summary:
The Accounting Manager, Nuvotronics (a division under Cubic Corporation), is responsible for leading the month-end close and delivering accurate financial statements for Nuvotronics. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for the setup and maintenance of standard costing for Nuvotronics products. Provides information and support for all aspects of program/product line expenses and revenues. Maintains or helps to maintain the accuracy of the entity's related books of record such as the general ledger, sales journal, fixed asset ledger, cash receipts and disbursements, and accounts payable. Ensures that material, labor and overhead costs are allocated in compliance with financial accounting standards and variances analyzed and understood. May also be assigned to special projects related to financial system upgrades, updates to accounting procedures, and development or improvement of accounting system processes. This position reports to CFO of Nuvotronics and typically works under limited supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Hands-on supervisor: leads month-end close, ensures the timeliness and accuracy of general ledger transactions and reconciliations including Payroll, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, inventory and Fixed Assets.
- Prepares bookings, sales, profits, backlog, receivables, capital expenditures and other operating statement reports for inclusion in the monthly Cubic financial statements.
- Develops and maintains standard costing model to enable a strong commercial products business. Reconciles actual costs to standard costs and analyzes variances in Bill of Materials and routings.
- Ensures that material, labor and overhead costs for the company's products and services are allocated in compliance with financial accounting standards.
- Monitors indirect departmental expenses, preparing variance analysis in support of monthly forecasts and Annual Operating Plan.
- Identifies key financial trends which positively and negatively impact the organization along with communicating these impacts on a timely basis.
- Ensures compliance with policies and procedures and provides audit support to both internal and external auditors as required.
- Performs highly complex financial analyses related to investment decisions, cash management trade-offs, etc
- Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of product line and establishes and ensures adherence to budgets and schedules.
- Develop and maintain a sound understanding of the strategic needs of the business and proactively contribute to the development of those needs through Finance teams
- Supervises and trains department staff to improve individual and organizational performance. Evaluates staff performance and provides feedback and coaching on a continual basis.
- Facilitates "Lean" principles and creating efficiencies within the department.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Four-year college degree in accounting or finance plus a minimum of six years of cost accounting and plant controllership experience, preferably in a manufacturing environment. Working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and financial reporting requirements. Must have experience in product and project costing. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems comparable to SAP, Jamis or MS Dynamics. Ability to effectively communicate and interface with all levels of personnel and management. Able to prioritize tasks, handle multiple projects, and work under tight deadlines to complete complex financial reports and analyses. Systematic thinker and problem solver. Exude a can-do attitude and possess a strong dedication to providing quality service. Candidate must possess the highest level of personal integrity. CPA or CMA certification preferred.
