Job Description

Observability/SRE Engineer (Remote)

This role has been designated as 'Edge', which means you will primarily work outside of an HPE office.

Job Description:

We are looking for a Site Reliability Engineer with an observability focus to join us in HPE's Storage Business Unit. If you have a passion for observability and using it to improve operations we'd love to speak with you.

In this role you will make your mark by focusing on creating and improving the observability platform that other teams will use to power HPE Storage's next generation offering. You'll use Prometheus and Grafana to help teams gain insight into their running services. You'll help introduce practices such as open telemetry and distributed tracing, while helping teams understand concepts such as service level indicators and objectives.

You will do this work while being part of a larger distributed DevOps/SRE team. This team uses Jenkins and Spinnaker to deploy to a Kubernetes and Istio platform that is running a fleet of microservices in AWS. As part of this team you will be in the on-call rotation to help support the platform and respond to and handle incidents. While you will be the observability expert you will help as needed in other areas to improve the platform and improve the service's reliability. The team will help you in implementing observability practices across the organization.

Part of building a better system means helping us find areas for improvement in both the technical and the people systems. We know our processes can always improve and as a site reliability engineer you will be an important part in driving this improvement. We believe in fostering a respectful and collaborative environment where everyone can learn. You don't have to be an expert in everything we're using, but you will need some experience with parts of the tech stack and a willingness to learn the parts you don't know.

As a candidate for this position, you likely have:

  • Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Kiali, and Humio
  • An understanding of SLOs and SLIs and how to define them
  • Experience writing automation code for provisioning and operating infrastructure
  • Experience with microservices and supporting them

  • Experience with operating Kubernetes and Istio
  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems OR equivalent combination of education and 6 - 10 years of experience.

We're looking for the right candidate who can help make us a better team. If this role sounds interesting to you we'd love to hear from you. Please apply today.

What we can offer you:

Extensive benefits, a competitive salary and participation in the shared values and purpose that make Hewlett Packard Enterprise one of the world's most attractive employers. At HPE, our goal is to provide equal opportunities, flexible work-life balance, and constantly evolving career growth.
