We are looking for a talented, enthusiastic and dedicated person to join BILL’s Risk Strategy team. This role will report to the Senior Director/Director, Risk Strategy and will work closely with cross functional teams to formulate credit risk management strategies and controls for payments across different channels. As a Data Scientist, you'll be an integral part of a team of problem solvers, helping to solve complex business issues from strategy to execution. Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize charge card, payment channels (A/R, A/P), working capital (invoice financing, buy now pay later) risk strategies to balance credit losses and revenue growth.
- Analyze large data sets and explore new data points to identify actionable opportunities for emerging credit trends.
- Create and implement credit strategy/policy for the given set of products. End-to-end ownership of the credit policies with governance of stakeholders including compliance, legal, enterprise risk management and C-level leaders.
- Create, maintain and monitor reports and dashboards, using all appropriate quantitative methods to provide risk related insights and recommendations.
- Respond to escalations and conduct root cause analysis, team up with cross functional teams to design and implement effective solutions in time.
- Utilize statistical and quantitative techniques to extract actionable insights that can inform credit strategies.
- Identify portfolio strengths, weaknesses, and areas for optimization in terms of credit onboarding strategies.
- Monitor and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to credit onboarding, such as delinquency rates, recovery rates, roll rates, and aging reports.
- Generate regular performance reports and dashboards, identifying trends and variances for management review.
- Collaborate with the Data Modeling team to build and enhance predictive models using historical data to forecast customer behavior, estimate default rates, and predict potential loss amounts.
- Propose enhancements to workflows and systems to facilitate a more data-centric approach to onboarding.
- Ensure data accuracy and completeness for all credit-related datasets, collaborating with data management teams as needed.
- Perform data quality checks and implement data cleansing processes to maintain high-quality data for analysis.
- Document analytical methodologies, findings, and insights in a clear and organized manner for reference and reporting purposes.
- Adhere to industry regulations and organizational policies related to credit and onboarding, ensuring ethical data usage and compliance with legal standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders including product managers and engineering teams to deploy data-driven credit risk solutions that operate at scale and in real time for end customers.
- Communicate effectively with team members, stakeholders, and management, ensuring clarity and understanding of data-driven recommendations.
We’d love to chat if you have:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics or similar field.
- 2+ years experience and possess domain knowledge in credit risk. Familiarity with typical underwriting strategies (traditional and non-traditional credit products), credit card authorization data and systems is highly valuable.
- Adept at SQL queries, Python, Excel and Tableau. Experience with analyzing large data sets is a plus.
- Collaborate with cross functional teams to prioritize, implement and optimize risk mitigation policies and controls.
- Excellent organizational skills - must possess ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Experience with or interest in data models, data mining and segmentation techniques.
- Proven ability to achieve results in a highly matrixed global organization.
- Ability to influence where you do not have direct authority through strong communication skills.
