On-Call AI Solutions Specialist

This role sits at the intersection of artificial intelligence, cloud engineering, and digital public service impact, supporting the development of AI-powered solutions for child welfare information systems. You will design and refine large language model (LLM) behaviors, embedding intelligent capabilities into applications hosted in an AWS environment. Working in a highly collaborative, mission-driven setting, you will help improve how critical information is accessed and delivered to professionals and the public. The position is on-call and part-time, offering flexibility up to 30 hours per week. You will focus heavily on prompt engineering, model optimization, and performance tuning using real-world data. You will lead the design, optimization, and operationalization of AI-driven solutions, ensuring high-performing and reliable LLM outputs across multiple use cases.

• Design, test, and refine prompts to improve accuracy, relevance, tone, and usability of LLM responses.
• Develop and optimize LLM workflows using proprietary datasets and prompt engineering best practices.
• Embed AI capabilities into applications to automate workflows and streamline repetitive processes.
• Monitor model performance, analyze output quality, and iterate based on metrics, feedback, and system behavior.
• Support integration of AI-powered chatbots into enterprise systems and internal workflows.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, UX, and domain experts to align AI behavior with user needs and goals.
• Maintain clear documentation of prompt libraries, system behaviors, and integration patterns.
• Contribute to SEO and web performance optimization strategies to enhance digital visibility and output relevance.

Requirements

You bring hands-on experience in AI/ML, prompt engineering, and cloud-based development, along with strong analytical and communication skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Computational Linguistics, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in prompt engineering, LLM fine-tuning, or NLP development.
• Strong proficiency in Python and familiarity with AI/ML libraries.
• Experience working with AWS AI/ML services such as Amazon SageMaker and Amazon Bedrock.
• Knowledge of Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) using Amazon Kendra or OpenSearch.
• Understanding of vector databases, embeddings, and model evaluation techniques.
• Familiarity with serverless architecture using AWS Lambda and Step Functions.
• Experience integrating AI solutions into CI/CD pipelines (AWS CodePipeline or CodeBuild preferred).
• Strong understanding of prompt evaluation, SEO principles, and web performance metrics (GA4).
• Excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Collaborative mindset with the ability to work across technical and non-technical stakeholders.
