Venture Global LNG (“Venture Global”) is a long-term, low-cost provider of American-produced liquefied natural gas. The company’s three Louisiana-based export projects service the global demand for North American natural gas and support the long-term development of clean and reliable North American energy supplies. Using reliable, proven technology in an innovative plant design configuration, Venture Global’s modular, mid-scale plant design will replace traditional designs as it allows for the same efficiency and operational reliability at significantly lower capital cost.
We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Operations Day Supervisor.
General Description:
The Operations Day Supervisor reports to the Director Operations – Process and is a focal point for synchronization activities involving effective coordination of the Venture Global Calcasieu Pass liquefied natural gas facility. The Operations Day Supervisor is responsible for working with other Directors, Managers, Shift Supervisors, Maintenance Supervisors within the Operations, Maintenance, Warehouse, Lab, Commercial and Site Marine Operating teams to help facilitate and support the LNG facility.
The incumbent will advise & coordinate production and shutdown-turnaround plans for the LNG facility. The Operations Day Supervisor leads the permit controls team and manages the day to day operations / maintenance interface and work activities. He/she also indirectly supervises Operators and is responsible for promoting teamwork, resolving conflict and building strong work relationships. In addition, the Day Supervisor must keep the Director informed of changes in plant related safety opportunities, environmental hazards, product quality considerations and any condition that could affect the operation of the facility. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the development and support of the budgetary cost plans for Operations. This includes an expense and production forecast consisting of operating rates, raw material requirements, various operational supplies & services, and yield efficiencies for the year(s) along with an estimate of minor capital requirements.
The Operations Day Supervisor position requires an understanding of complex continuous LNG operations and state-of-the-art computerized DCS control systems. The incumbent must possess strong Operations technical background and 15+ years experience in plant operations, focusing on Operations / maintenance interface, turnaround planning, and/or permit controlling processes. Â He/she must be self-confident, a strong communicator, skilled in management techniques, and willing to accept significant responsibility.Â
Responsibilities:
- Drive a proactive approach to safe plant operating practices, keeping alert for unsafe conditions and ensuring corrective actions are taken. Observe operating conditions and communicate to the Operations Shift and Maintenance Supervisors all non-compliance requirements.
- Help to plan and facilitate operational activities, such as routine, regulatory, and turnaround activities in the VG LNG facility which include utilities, pretreatment, liquefaction, storage & loading and Power Island.
- Explore opportunities to reduce operating expenses, increase plant efficiency, and improve compliance management.
- Provide technical advice and expertise specific to a LNG facility focusing on process and management improvements.
- Provide leadership and become the Operations SME in the development of Operations business systems, such as Permit to Work (PTW), Operations Round management software, Operations shift log books and reporting systems.
- Support any EPC design activities, such as HAZOP & LOPA studies when required. Participate in various reviews during engineering and design phases, such as HAZOPs, 3D Model, P&ID and siting reviews.
- Assist through various forms of communication to support senior leadership with the pre-commissioning, commissioning, startup, initial, and long-term operation suggestions of the LNG facility.
- Provide dynamic leadership, guidance and direction to the operations team.Recommend/use available technical expertise and know-how to maximize production levels.
- Set expectations regarding product excellence, customer satisfaction, contractual commitments, and reliability.
- Ensure compliance with safety policies. Be involved in periodic field safety audits. Assist the Safety and Compliance departments in investigation of abnormal conditions and safety/environmental incidents and near misses. Actively participate in safety programs and initiatives. Promote Safe Work initiatives. Participate in the Facility Safety Program as a champion.
- Maintain operation improvement list and lessons learned database.
- Assist in planning and scheduling of work for operators, controllers, contractors and construction support services to meet schedules and deadlines
- Develop and maintain operating schedule showing departmental plan to be delivered and ensure that targets are communicated to senior leadership.
- Provide input into the overall operating budget and business plan to allow senior leadership to analyze and review the approved departmental budget.
- Provide input and support to aid in the development of necessary agreements and contracts to support purchasing activities the procurement team to be conducted within corporate requirements.
- Assist in governmental compliance activities including audits both internal and during outside agency involvement (OSHA, DOT, State Agencies, EPA, USCG, PHMSA etc.).
- Manage and track cost attributed to employees, vendors, and subcontractors.
- Critically assess and vendor invoices for operations and report to senior leadership.
- Engage in daily maintenance planning activities and report information to senior leadership of upcoming activities.
- Interface with Training team members for required operator qualification & competency. Schedule training as required to maintain competency within the Operations group.
- Observe operational efficiency of plant and ensure the marine staff understands the plant operational requirements and budgetary constraints.
- Observe execution of production plan, communicating goals and deviations as necessary, coordinate with other departments on behalf of the operations team, coordinate internal information sharing such as shift change and shift logs.
- Participate in daily strategy planning with production management and work to overcome the limitations and deficiencies to assure targets are met.
- Participate in Incident Command & Emergency Management drills & actuals.
Qualifications:
Education and Certifications:Â PTEC degree preferred or relevant process experience.
- Experience:
- Fifteen (15) years’ working experience in commissioning, startup & operations in oil & gas, or petrochemical facilities, of which at least two (3) must be at a supervisor, superintendent or manager level.
- At least ten (10) years working experience with LNG or other cryogenic hydrocarbon liquids and associated systems is preferred; however petrochemical operational experience may be considered acceptable.

- Possess the personality and ability to relate to and to establish a mutually respectful relationship with management, peers and the various facility level workers whom are all responsible for ensuring good operations.
- Organized, planning skills, able to manage multiple activities and programs in timely fashion and with a high degree of accuracy, able to meet work deadlines.
- Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills.
- Computer knowledge including Apple Mac, Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, Project & PowerPoint.
- Must maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card in good standing status
Direct Reports:
- Leads a team of facility permit coordinators.
Freedom to Act:
- OperationsDay Supervisor will undergo initial training until he/she will have an understanding LNG liquefaction, storage and cargo loading operations and documentation.
Work Conditions:
- Job is performed in an industrial plant environment.
- Limited travel and temporary assignment required as business conditions dictate.
- Subject to drug & alcohol testing, per applicable federal regulations or as required by Venture Global LNG.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is often required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, work at height above ground on stairs and catwalks, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk or hear, smell, type and write.Â
- Must be able to board a ship via a gangway, climb to the top of a tank (200+ steps), scale vertical steel ladder up to forty feet or more in height and lift and move objects weighting up to 30 pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will work indoors & outdoors, and be exposed to year-around weather conditions, ocean environment, and noise. There is a considerable amount of outdoor activities involved.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Required to pass regularly scheduled physical examinations mandated by regulatory authorities.
- Required to obtain mandated certification by attending Company-sponsored training in basic first aid, CPR, AED & LNG firefighting.
