Operations Management Development Program

Job Overview

GA Foods is excited to announce our new Operations Management Development Program (OMDP), an accelerated leadership training experience consisting of two 18-month assignments in our field Operations Units.

The OMDP trainee will have the responsibility of directing the day-to-day operations of a multi-million dollar culinary distribution unit. They will ensure compliance with company and contract standards in all areas of Operations, including food production, preparation, customer and client relations, unit maintenance and repair, inventory management, P&L- financial accountability, team management, recruiting and Logistics. The MDP trainee ensures that the highest quality of services are delivered to our clients and the community.

The ideal candidate will have an Operations or Logistics background with food service industry experience, and a proven track record of leading high-performing teams. Preferred candidates are those with culinary management skills, and a ServSafe certification. All candidates must be willing to relocate to the Montgomery, Alabama area where the GA Foods Field Operations Center of Excellence is located.

Essential Duties

Including but not limited to:
  • Assist with oversight of daily food production operations
  • Ensure accurate recipe and portioning controls
  • Proper quantity and quality of meals
  • Supervise, mentor and train direct reports
  • Interaction with customers
  • Problem-solve on site issues
  • Provide support with packing, distribution, warehouse/inventory control
  • Perform necessary recordkeeping and other reports as required
  • Assist with compilation of management reporting, including but not limited to month-end inventory control and reporting
  • Assist with route development to meet growth and efficiency models
  • Oversee special production runs
  • Ensure that food safety, sanitation guidelines, HACCP, GMP's and other compliance/regulatory requirements are maintained along with appropriate temperature controls
  • Ensure DOT compliance and maintain required recordkeeping
  • Ensure labor productivity and other standards are met
  • Assist with troubleshooting customer and program issues pertaining to menu and performance, including coordination w/RD
  • Attend customer menu meetings and in-service as required
  • Assist with purchasing, inventory control, food service ordering and preparation, sanitation and quality assurance, food and employee safety, facilities and grounds maintenance
  • Other duties as assigned by management

Degree, Certifications
  • Associates in Culinary Arts/Food Service Management or other related degree preferred and/or equivalent combination of experience/education
  • Current ServSafe
  • Certified Professional Food Manager
  • Valid AL Class D Regular Operator Driver License

Preferred Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, operations, logistics, business administration, transportation, or engineering
  • Proven 1+ years Food Service Supervisory experience, institutional a plus
  • Proven training and experience in quantity food preparation procedures, food purchasing, food service management, and food safety and sanitation
  • Documented training in HACCP or Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP's)
  • Working knowledge of the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP) requirements and applicable Federal, State, and Local food laws and regulations a plus
  • Personal Computer Skills: MS Office, Windows, Excel, MRP/ERP system, General Office Equipment
  • Good Supervisory Skills, Effective Verbal, Written and Oral Communication Skills
  • Customer Relations Management, Team Building and Staff Supervision Skills
  • Willingness to relocate as needed
