ABOUT THE POSITION
Columbia Sportswear's dynamic global Supply Chain consists of 4 distribution centers, 430 retail stores, 80 apparel factories and 20 footwear factories worldwide and a diverse raw materials source base to support our consumer needs. We pride ourselves on being able to get products to market quickly, safely, and in the most cost-effective manner. By leveraging data analytics, we are constantly pushing to make smarter business decisions and identifying innovative ways to make Columbia Sportswear's Supply Chain more efficient and effective to meet our consumers' ever-changing needs.
As a Distribution Center Operations Manager, you are solely responsible for fulfilling service level requirements on behalf of the Columbia Sportswear Company family of brands, unique brand objectives, and our variety of customers. This includes addressing and escalating any gaps that require attention and resolution from appropriate individuals and/or teams, ensuring continuation of service levels during peak periods and promptly correcting any foreseen or unforeseen disruptions to service levels. The Production Manager will contribute to the smooth, efficient, and cost-effective quality distribution of product by managing the assigned department(s) and/or shift staff and workload.
HOW YOU'LL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
- Manage the assigned production department(s) and its employees. Includes scheduling to ensure adequate department coverage, monitoring workflow and adjusting it as needed and anticipating changes
- Maintain proficient knowledge of various brand requirements and customer commitments
- Maintain and develop the training of department personnel in proper work methods and ensuring these methods are being followed. Includes analyzing performance and quality statistics
- Protect well-being and safety of department personnel by ensuring that employees are trained in safe work practices, ensuring that these practices are followed and ensuring that equipment is in safe and working order and maintained properly
- Maintain work standards and monitor workflows for all direct labor in department
- Coordinate with other departments and managers to resolve issues and ensure that all materials and/or product are available
- Analyze problems and options regarding improved methods. Trouble-shoot system problems
- Ensure that staff is properly trained and in complete understanding of all policies and procedures within the department(s)
- Capable of collaborating well with individuals from various countries and cultures
- A natural problem solver who can make decisions independently using data analysis
- Able to motivate, recognize and positively engage team members to achieve results
- Resilient and able to adapt to a constantly changing environment
- A self-driven and self-starter who takes initiative and has a proven ability to deliver consistent results
- Willing and able to work flexible hours as the business needs dictate including swing, day, night, weekends, and holidays as required
- Physical ability to use telephone, computer equipment/keyboard, move freely around the Distribution Center, stoop, crouch, sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Able to regularly lift/carry up to 40 pounds and push up to 80 pounds
- A Bachelor's degree or equivalent specializing in Business Administration, Logistics, or Industrial Engineering
- At least 2-4 years' experience in materials management and distribution, and 1-3 years of experience leading exempt leaders
- Thorough knowledge of warehouse operations and computerized distribution systems
- Intermediate computer skills including working knowledge of PC software such as word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Experience driving results through performance metrics, KPI's, and process improvement methods such as Lean, Six Sigma, GEMBA, etc.
- Experience with staffing a department(s) through annual production cycles, interviewing, hiring, managing performance, promoting, and terminating
- Capable of multi-tasking, highly organized, with excellent time management and problem-solving skills required
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
