Job Description
SUMMARY
Directs and coordinates activities of the branch to obtain optimum efficiency and excellence of operations and maximize profits by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors under the direction and support of Branch Manager
The Operations Manager is responsible for the operational results of the branch. The major role is one of business leaderships for operational organization. The main goals of the Operations Manager:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES includes, but not limited to:
- Plans, develops and implements organization policies and goals.
- Coordinates activities of the branch office which may include export, import and brokerage, planning, and maintenance to effect operational efficiency and economy for all services. Also includes maintaining and overseeing warehouse facilities and compliance with applicable safety regulations, if applicable
- Assists Branch Manager with preparation and delivery of branch budget results
- In concert with Branch Manager analyzes branch budget requests to identify areas for maximum efficiencies and allocations for operating budget. Confers with business unit managers regarding staffing, reviews activity, operations and sales needs reports to determine changes in services/programs and/ or operations requirements.
- Directs preparation of directives to employees outlining policy, program, or operations changes to be implemented.
- Promotes organization in industry or trade associations.
- Analyzes and organizes office operations and procedures such as personnel, information management, filing systems, requisition of supplies, and other administrative functions.
- Maximizes office productivity through proficient use of appropriate software applications.
- Researches and develops resources that create timely and efficient workflow.
- Analyze data to monitor performances and plan improvements in delivery performance
- Evaluates logistical problems, recommends and creates new solutions
- Establishes uniform correspondence procedures and style practices.
- Formulates procedures for systematic retention, protection, retrieval, transfer, and disposal of records.
- Assists and collaborates with Branch Mgr and Business Unit Mgrs to plan office layout, develop office budget, and initiates cost reduction programs and optimize efficiencies.
- Reviews clerical and personnel records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
- Prepares activity reports for management analysis.
- Monitors accounts receivable and aggressively works to collect overdue amounts.
- Maintains routine contact with customers and outside vendors.
- Direct and oversee activities of staff engaged in assigning tariff classifications according to type and weight of freight or merchandise; routing and scheduling shipment by air, rail, or truck; and preparing billings from tariff and classification manuals.
- Reviews documents to ensure that assigned classifications and tariffs are in accordance with mode of transportation and destination of shipment.
- Oversee investigation of shipper or consignee complaints regarding lost or damaged merchandise or shortages in shipment to determine responsibility.
- Directs preparation of claims against carrier responsible and corresponds with shipper or consignee to effect settlement.
- Monitor /Audit operations to ensure compliance with interstate traffic laws and regulations and company policies.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly supervises 4-8 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Four to ten years related experience and/or training. Advanced education a plus.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Proficient command of the English language - French a plus. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
