Role Summary
Responsible for managing resources and personnel to meet production schedules, productivity targets, quality targets, safety, ergonomics, and environment objectives, continuous improvement projects and cost objectives. Develop the facility into a world-class operation.
Plan, coordinate and direct the Quality Assurance Department to ensure quality of products consistent with established standards by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Plan, coordinate the implementation of Mafact.
Implements and oversees the administration of all methods and procedures to ensure conformity to blue print, customer specific and/or MPT Sterling Heights internal specifications of all production material. Coordinates, communicates and regulates quality related issues and/or policies such as IATF 2016:16949, ISO14001 and Mafact disciplines, throughout the manufacturing process. To ensure quality products using a system of prevention where the acceptance standard is zero defects.
All aspects and functions involved in the operations of both plants.
Key Responsibilities
Assign and manage personnel and equipment resources and work with Materials and Suppliers to schedule production to meet Customer Requirements in a manner, which will minimizes downtime throughout the plant floor.
Assists Human Resource Manager in the area of labor relations and disciplinary actions when necessary.
Attends and participates in the Fast Response, Mafact, Core Team, KMI and Leadership Meetings.
Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT's Environmental Management System (EMS).
Conduct Performance Appraisals for direct reports according to policy.
Demonstrate and promote Core Values with direct team and throughout the organization.
Develop, implement and control all procedures directly relating to product quality.
Directs and develops employees engaged in quality assurance activities including PPAP, FMEA, SPC, Gage R&R, Supplier qualification, Calibration systems and Corrective Action and Preventative Action.
Directs and develops Production SupervisorsTeam Leaders, Tool Room Manager, Maintenance Supervisor and Sr. Controls Technician.
Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment). Reports unsafe conditions.
Implements quality assurance training programs for personnel in conjunction with Managers, Supervisors and Leaders.
Insure that company and customer policies and procedures are followed.
Investigate incidences leading to downtime and develop, initiate and verify corrective action.
Investigate nonconformities and develop, initiate and verify corrective action.
Involvement in Advanced Product Quality Planning.
Maintain documentation and records of Quality department functions.
Maintains customer relationships, including scheduling of customer visits.
Maintains quality assurance objectives and metrics.
Manage multiple projects and deliverables while treating team members with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee's Charter and Common Values, which includes a commitment to fair treatment and a safe and healthful workplace.
Measures in cooperation with HR the effectiveness and efficiency of the Training program.
Participate and drive KMI's.
Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits improvement suggestions (CI, Safety).
Performs Layered Process Audits (LPA's).
Prepares and presents technical, program and operation information to the management team.
Record and track the measurement of quality using the cost of quality with is a reflection of the price of nonconformance.
Reports unsafe conditions.
Responsible for an efficient, team driven, quality focused operation that promotes an attitude of continuous improvement, in the areas of cost, quality, delivery, safety, environmental and technology.
Responsible for promoting and seeking excellence in all aspects of business. Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits Cost saving improvement suggestions, CIP's.
Responsible to support a safe work environment for all employees through organization, cleanliness and open communication that assure compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding safety.
Support Continuous Improvement Program.
Supports and facilitates Problem Solving activities for more than 20 hours per week (>50%)
Support the organization in the implementation of Mafact, including lean manufacturing techniques, standardized work and continuous improvement activities in coordination with all Safety and Quality Standards following IATF 16949:2015, ISO9001:2015 and customer specific requirements.
Key Qualifications/Requirements
Manages Production SupervisorsTeam Leaders, Tooling Manager, Maintenance & Facilities Supervisor, Controls Engineer, Sr. Controls Technician, Mfg. Technical Support Supervisor & Purchasing & Logistics Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the department. Carries out Manager responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Manages employees in the Quality Assurance department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these areas.
Additional Information
Bachelor's degree or related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 7 years' experience in an automotive environment. Minimum 5 years' experience in supervision. Extensive knowledge of production of metal stamping and CNC machining. Must be a results-oriented team player, effective at problem solving and project planning/organizing, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, high energy level and good attention to detail. Working knowledge of FMEA, PCP, Engineering change process. Fluent in interpretation of technical drawings and specifications, Corrective and Preventative Action.
Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, sing whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient on the computer, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Prior experience utilizing AS400 Database software and ability to create spreadsheets.
Communication Skills : Ability to use active listening and assertive communication when needed. Ability to give positive and negative feedback effectively. Manage direct reports from different generations effectively.
