Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an energetic and motivated team member, with Transportation Operations experience, to fill the role of the Transportation Operations Specialist based in Detroit, MI.

Position provides on-onsite services for the client at the Southeast Michigan Operations Center (SEMTOC).

Job Responsibilities
  • Works under limited supervision performing complex technical work.
  • Duties may include technical responsibility for a major phase or component of a project.
  • Takes lead role in work-flow coordination and project initiatives.
  • Monitoring staff to ensure operations are monitoring roadways, including detecting, confirming, updating, and responding to scheduled and unscheduled traffic events and congestion with ITS devices such as closed-circuit TV, detectors, etc.
  • Cultivate the team to act like emergency dispatchers within a call center environment dispatching Safety Service Patrol via a two-way radio system to assist motorists, respond to events and other activities that require timely and efficient responses.
  • As directed, communicates with client managers, operations/project managers and department lead to provide status updates, ascertain needs within the control room operation and provide solutions to issues.
  • Supports the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Assist in the research and development of presentations, technical memos, and studies
  • Attend internal and external meetings to represent the Transportation Operations Center
  • Actively reviews maintenance and operational activities for accuracy and appropriateness, providing guidance and feedback to staff as needed
  • Mentors current staff and new hires on procedures and policies
  • Assume operations leadership role when operations manager is offsite
  • Contribute to accurate and timely after-action reports for high-impact incidents and events
  • Work on special assignments, tasks, reports and presentations
  • Perform other duties as needed by the client and operations manager
  • Advise and assist with TOC Services outreach within the community and client stakeholder networks as well as participating in TIM responder training.
  • Assists with special event planning and setup.
  • Effectively supports the recruitment, selection and on-boarding process for project and regional AECOM leadership.
  • This is a 24/7 emergency operations environment. Shifts can include overnights, weekends, holiday and/or rotating schedules.
Minimum Requirements
  • BA/BS plus eight (8) years of related experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
  • Due to nature of work, US citizenship is required
  • Willing to submit to drug test
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous TOS/TMC experience
