Group/Division

With over 40 years of semiconductor process control experience, chipmakers around the globe rely on KLA to ensure that their fabs ramp next-generation devices to volume production quickly and cost-effectively. Enabling the movement towards advanced chip design, KLA's Global Products Group (GPG), which is responsible for creating all of KLA's metrology and inspection products, is looking for the best and the brightest research scientist, software engineers, application development engineers, and senior product technology process engineers. The Film and Scatterometry Technology (FaST) Division provides industry leading metrology solutions for worldwide semiconductor IC manufacturers. The FaST Division portfolio of metrology products includes hardware and software solutions for optical film thickness, optical critical dimension (CD), composition, and resistivity measurement systems. These products are essential for the IC manufacturers as they provide critical metrology capabilities for the development and implementation of their advanced IC processes. The FaST division is committed to support our customers to achieve performance entitlement of our solution and we effectively partner with our customers from their early research and development phase to the high volume in-line manufacturing implementation specific for their process needs. The division consists of a global team located in US, Israel, China, and India.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

The Advanced Development of FaST Division is seeking an Optical Engineering Intern to build, model, validate the next generation cutting-edge optical metrology prototype systems. The candidate will be part of the team responsible for system architecture definition, modeling, design, integration, and characterization of optical metrology systems in semiconductor industry.

Responsibilities

  • Build proof-of-concept optical lab setups and benches.
  • Design and specify high precision optical components and modules, such as lasers, mirrors, lenses, polarizers, spectrometers, detectors, cameras, photoelastic- and acoustic-optical devices.
  • Design, model, analyze complex optical systems using software such as Zemax, LightTools, Lumerical, Matlab, Python for raytracing, tolerancing, wavefront analysis, stray light analysis, polarization analysis, Fourier analysis, as well as physical modeling including diffraction, interference, scattering.
  • Work with external vendors and internal resources such as research scientist, system engineer, opto-mechanical engineers to design, procure, build, characterize, integrate, and validate optical bench systems.
  • Develop optical alignment method, metrology process, alignment fixture and data analytics of optical components and systems.
  • Troubleshoot and analyze optical problems that arise with the system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD student in Optical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or other relevant field
  • Solid background in optics such as polarization, diffraction, scattering, Fourier optics, Vacuum UV optics, Mid-IR optics, imaging system aberrations, spectrometer aberration as well as lasers and detectors.
  • Experience in high precision and sophisticated optical alignment, imaging, and spectroscopic performance validation.
  • Capability of modeling optical performance and defining tolerance using Zemax, LightTools, Lumerical are preferred.
  • Knowledges of holography, polarimetry, spectroscopic ellipsometry, reflectometry, interferometry are preferred.
  • Development experiences in Matlab, Python, Labview are plus.
  • Demonstrate detail oriented and methodical problem-solving skills in multi-disciplinary environment and hands-on lab work.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
