OSP Drafter (Hybrid/Remote Position)

General Summary:

Responsible for accurate and timely drafting of as-staked and as-built drawings. Specific responsibilities include assisting with the planning, preparation, and design of drawings for construction of new or rearrangement of existing aerial, underground lines, cables, and conduits. Maintains cutsheets, splicing, and plant records. This is a hybrid position where some work may be done remotely.

Essential Job Functions:

• Creates, maintains, and updates maps, drawings and records for new and existing outside plant and inside plant facilities, and maps existing structures for ongoing reference used by Engineering, Construction, Network Operations, Field Operations, Customer Service, Sales and Marketing departments.

• Digitizes as-staked and as-built drawings utilizing Mapcom M4 and AutoCAD software packages.
• Utilizes mapping software and GIS information from various sources, including GPS and government survey records.

• Ensures plant compliance with company and industry specifications.
• Prepares and maintains plant records and cut sheets.
• Work Colloratively with field staff and the permitting groups to prepare, draft, and review the necessary drawings for construction, permitting, and records.
• Working with field crews to ensure compliance with construction standards and specifications.
• Verifies constructed plant by performing inventory.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge of telecommunications construction, engineering practices/ principles, and RUS units.
• Knowledge of transmission qualities and capabilities of fiber plant.
• Knowledge of the electronics and apparatus needed to support the advanced services technology
• Knowledge of plant records for fiber optic facilities.
• Knowledge in various computer software programs. (i.e. MS Office, Mapcom,M4, AutoCAD, and NISC iVue)
• Skill in reading and interpreting technical documents and forms including schematics and specification manuals.
• Ability to communicate with co-workers and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
• Ability to pay close attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively function in isolation and as a team player and maintain a pleasant attitude.
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.

Education and Experience:

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to an associate's degree in engineering technology PLUS two years work experience in telecommunications
