Page Designer I

Summary:
The Page Designer I will be responsible for the presentation and on-time delivery of pages for the assigned publication. MediaNews Group seeks a creative, detail-oriented, sports-loving Page Designer to join it's Scranton Times-Tribune team. The Page Designer will be responsible for designing pages for both the Scranton and Wilkes-Barre editions. The successful candidate needs to demonstrate strong judgment and headline writing capabilities. This person will work across multiple publications so communication skills are a must. We welcome resumes from both recent graduates and experienced designers interested in working with papers of varying sizes to tell the stories important to our readers.
This is a work from home opportunity, must reside in or near the Scranton area.
Night shift 4pm-1am, weekends are required
What you will do:

• Responsible for page design, copy editing and headline writing; editing for length, style and accuracy
• Promote visual storytelling via photographs, graphics, illustrations, and typography in a presentation that is logical and organized
• Regularly confer with the appropriate editors about story play
• Communicate with the prepress and production departments regarding quality control issues and the output of negatives
• Communicate effectively with remote editors and reporters
• Design at a highly productive level

What you will bring:

• Ability to work effectively in a remote and deadline driven environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment
• Strong communication, and problem-solving skills
• Familiarity with G-Suite, Microsoft Office, Adobe
• College degree or equivalent experience required
• Previous newspaper design experience is preferred
• Proven skills in news judgment, typography, page design, headline hierarchies and editing of stories, graphics, and photographs
